Tom Daly - This Morning

Something I noticed today, Holly/Philip mentioned to Tom he'd been vocal about disagreeing with the new ruling re t"trans women " in women's swimming.

Tom said he just feels everyone should be allowed to take part in sport. But none of the 3 of them mentioned the reason, or what about fairness to biological women. Nothing.

I can see how this issue is worsening, when nobody is willing to say anything.

Of course everyone should be able to participate. That’s not the issue. The issue is whether the importance of being able to participate makes it okay to cheat.

Circumferences · 28/06/2022 17:14

The editorial line on this show will be "keep it brain-dead and emotionally manipulative"
I'm sure the words "stunning brave most marginalized" will have arisen.
It doesn't mean the topic is doomed. Far from it.

MissyCooperismyShero · 28/06/2022 17:15

Tom is an utter twerp. And has previously said he was 'furious' about people having gone through male puberty (aka men) not being able to compete in women's sports. Presumably he didn't have the courage to spell this out in as many words on This Morning. Even he would know that would be the demise of him.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/06/2022 17:16

No one is stopping anyone from competing in the correct sex category.

Sports should never have glibly conflated sex and gender. If it had been likely to adversely affect men, it wouldn't have happened.

BreadInCaptivity · 28/06/2022 17:31

Nobody has said TW should not compete in sport.

Simply that they should not compete against women.

So either they compete against their own sex or the rules of sport change to have a female category and an open category (the latter of which anyone can enter and is thus not asking TW or TM to enter into competition in a sex category that is different to their gender identity).

As stands, Tom's view is that TW should be able to compete as women and thus exclude women from elite (and none elite) events and the opportunity to gain sponsorship that winning and medals bring - something he's made significant £££ from and still uses to cash in on after retirement.

In short, he thinks everyone should be able to freely participate in sport in whatever sex class they like even if it means women are denied the very opportunities that have given him the platform he has now to speak out and make money.

He either hasn't thought this through properly - making him a fool, or he has and doesn't care - making him a misogynistic prick.

Pippinbird · 28/06/2022 17:42

Yeh I watched it today and knew it was coming.

They let him say his piece re trans in sports, then ‘nae lips’ Phil as an adjunct asked about his experience as a gay man in sports etc.

Was a cop out either way you look at it. Just paying lip service. Either make your point and discuss or don’t bother bringing it up.

The whole interview was just about him flogging some bits of wool anyway…….a pointless interview even by This Mornings standards

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 28/06/2022 17:51

I wonder, if a new rule was bought in that said.

  • a maximum of 1 male bodied competitor in the male race is allowed to dope with steroids and/or testosterone to the point that they have a provable advantage over other male athletes. All other male competitors must stick to the no doping rules, must accept the doped up athlete unconditionally and cannot in any way suggest that their performance was due to an unfair advantage. They must BE KIND to the doped U.K. athlete.

Would Tom have any problems with that?

ControversialOpening · 28/06/2022 18:04

There's an article in the Guardian today from simpleton sports writer Jonathon Liew. Like most on that side of the debate he's either a liar or a fucking idiot ... or both.
www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2022/jun/28/nadine-dorries-offers-the-illusion-of-easy-choices-while-trans-athletes-pay-the-price.

It's worth reading just to remind yourself that if these are the best arguments it's no wonder they tried the 'no debate' tactic for so long.

334bu · 28/06/2022 18:09

Above " sports writer" getting roasted on Twitter for his total disregard for women's sport.

RenegadeMatron · 28/06/2022 18:13

The issue isn’t worsening.

People are, finally, feeling able to come out and say - ‘the Emperor doesn’t have a nice new set of clothes. In fact, he is naked’. That is, to say what we can all see with our own eyes.

Tom Daly can whine on national TV all he likes, but any seeing / thinking person can see he is a hypocrite of the highest order.

As a gay man, he knows as much as anyone that sex is different from gender, and that while you can change your gender as easily as you change your mind, you can’t change your sex.

What with him using an adult human female to gestate his baby with him. And, what with him only being sexually attracted to male-bodied people.

RenegadeMatron · 28/06/2022 18:14
  • gestate his baby for him
Musomama1 · 28/06/2022 19:48

Hmmm, you'd think this would make a really good topic for Loose Women to discuss later on.... hello, is loose women there?... anyone? hello?

Nope they're not answering. 🤔

Birdsweepsin · 28/06/2022 19:53

I agree with this. 'No debate' was actually 'no argument that holds up in daylight'

dropthevipers · 28/06/2022 20:19

To cut Tom some slack, hes hardly the sharpest knife in the drawer

PonyPatter44 · 28/06/2022 20:23

He looks nice in his little pants... thick as mince, though, I agree.

RenegadeMatron · 28/06/2022 20:25

It’s easy to dismiss him as not very bright, but I heard actually he is, at least academically.

Clearly that doesn’t translate to common sense, but it should translate to some critical thinking skills.

This isn’t about being bright or not. It’s about toeing the party line, and not ‘being allowed’ to vocalise the anti-Stonewall line.

Titsywoo · 28/06/2022 20:29

I just saw an interview with Sharron Davies about this www.tiktok.com/@gbnews/video/7114257508117662982?is_copy_url=1&is_from_webapp=v1&lang=en&q=tom%20daly%20trans&t=1656444474532

flyingbuttress43 · 28/06/2022 20:36

I'm clean out of fucks to give with people like Tom Daley. Being gay, may or may not be genetic, but living a gay lifestyle as in gay marriage is a choice. Crack on with it by all means, nothing wrong with that; but once you start renting women's wombs to enable you to have the best of both worlds, I lose all respect for you. His views on trans women in women's sports is exactly what you would expect from such a selfish, arrogant person. Where women are concerned he is saying "heads I win, tails you lose."

Men, especially white men can never understand. I am not criticising them for that. They have always had an enormous amount of privilege simply by being male and white.

Decent men recognise their privilege and tend to either support woman or hold their silence.

Others think they know more than us and like to suggest how we should behave. There is a word for these men.........

Sallypally0 · 28/06/2022 20:54

Absolute muppet.

It will not affect him. It is the female swimmers that will have a disadvantage competing against former males.

Hey Tom. Would it be okay if your competitors were all allowed to take growth hormones and steroids?

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 28/06/2022 21:07

It's fluffy daytime ITV, where everyone is kind and inclusive and simpers over their guests. I didn't watch it, but I can imagine it's basically Tom going on about being kind, while Phil and Holly tilt their heads at him empathetically whilst nodding along with a look of faux concern.

Loose Women probably wouldn't touch the subject with a bargepole, unless it was to have Tom on and nod along to him as well 😂

Tom knows very well what women are -when it suits his needs.

endofagain · 28/06/2022 22:54

Far too many people are given a public platform who have no idea what they are talking about IMO.
I am so cross about all of this my grammar has gone to pot.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 28/06/2022 23:01

No surprise that the grin twins did what they do best.

Grin and head tilt.

In a stunning and brave way of course.

agent765 · 28/06/2022 23:01

His interview and comments were covered by Piers Morgan last night, then discussed with Martina Navratilova.

They also agreed he's a muppet. No comments about the fluffy Phil and Holly, though.
