She is on bbc discussing trans inclusion in sports. She and a doctor from Stockholm are being very sensible the trans people are saying oh but its just mean and women being meany mean pants.

She is brilliant and being absolutely wonderful. The trans inclusion person started on about children's mental health and she countered with what about women's mental health.

Typical BBC attempt at transwashing and she is really standing up against it.

I was so pleased to see Tessa Sanderson standing up for women’s sport, but I think she was flustered (understandably) and could have done a better job of explaining why it was unfair. If she had stuck to “males undergoing male puberty have irreversible physical advantages” rather than getting sucked into the T level debate and “it’s just unfair” it would have been much more impactful.

Tommy Lundberg was spot on with his “there have been 12 studies and so far it’s 12 - nil showing unfair advantage”.

Trans inclusion in female sport: bodies, sex, and gender identity

Dr Jon Pike, Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at the OU, presents his view on how to secure fair and maximally inclusive competitive sport.

About this event
Global sports policy is in a state of extreme flux this summer, over the challenge of including trans people in sexed categories. In particular. the inclusion of male-bodied athletes, who identity as women (or transwomen, hereafter TW) is posing difficulties for international governing bodies such as FINA (swimming) and the UCI (cycling). The IOC itself has abdicated responsibility for deciding on policy.

Here, the clash between sex and gender identity seems particularly sharp. The T-level fix – which sought to reconcile fairness with inclusion by requiring that TW reduced their levels of testosterone – is widely seen as a failure. In its place, ad hoc conceptions of ‘meaningful competition’, ‘disproportionate advantage’, and ‘tolerable unfairness’ have been foregrounded. Others have argued from a ‘human right to sport’ to justify the inclusion of TW in female sport.

Dr Pike will argue that these paths are dead ends for securing fair and maximally inclusive competitive sport. He will present an alternative view, one that has been (part-)endorsed by the Sports Councils Equality Group for the existence of two categories: a Female category and an Open one.

This event will be recorded.

Tessa is showing what is really the most crucial issue of the day. It's not the renunciation of Roe v Wade in the USA, and women being forced to carry their foetus to term (even though, in some state, the father might have raped the woman concerned). Oh no. It's the fact that, in theory, there's an outside chance - say, 1 in 100, that a natal woman might find herself competing in a sport against a transwoman. No First World problem is that ... it threatens to bring all the rights us women have fought for - even the Daily Mail readers who've spent their lives hating feminism till they've suddenly decided to be 'feminists' re this transwomen issue alone - to our knees.

I think we should all make a point of weeping softly tonight, along with Tessa Sanderson ... after we've applied some glam lip gloss, as does J K Rowling, without fail, every day. :) Aren't people equipped with winkles and goolies - or who once had winkles and goolies - absolutely beastly?!

I think we should cry and wail extensively, till all those against us realise just how wrong they are!

NotBadConsidering · 30/06/2022 22:06

Yes, it’s really important that while many people focus on the major issues of women’s rights, as evident with the world wide protests and mainstream media coverage of Roe vs Wade, that there are still people paying attention to make sure the other major issues of women’s rights, the ones that have been/are subtly eroded over years via the Dentons’ play book aren’t ignored.

Why doesn’t that 1 in 100 woman matter to you, Ides?

PomegranateOfPersephone · 30/06/2022 22:21

It is great that we are skilled multi taskers and capable of caring about and campaigning on more than one issue at a time whilst also looking after our families and doing paid work.

Aren’t women amazing?

It won't be 1:100 if men TW continue to get their way. Women's elite sports will be wiped out by mediocre males.

Oh dear. Let's face it - fine athlete - but bit of a dimwit, isn't she?

What’s the phrase? Every accusation is an admission?

I guess Verity believes that transmen should compete against men at elite level then?

For someone whose job appears to be about fairness and inclusion Verity managed to score more own goals than I would have thought possible !Their arguments were pathetically thin ,irrational, badly thought through and poorly expressed. I assume Verity would have taken part in many similar discussions and would have been coached to assemble coherent and rational set of arguments .

I can only conclude that there are no coherent , rational arguments which support transwomen in womens sport. Gosh, what a surprise.

So glad you took time out of your busy schedule protesting the Roe v Wade decision to make a post telling women off 👍

I mean it's not as if it's possible for our weak ladybrains to care and discuss more than one issue at a time. 😔

balalake · 02/07/2022 12:03

It seems as if FINAs decision might be followed by other sports. Good on Tessa Sanderson to stand up for fair competition in sport, and whilst I never liked Sebastien Coe, I hope he can use his role to achieve the same in athletics.

As an aside, I’ve met Tessa Sanderson at an Adoption UK conference. We hadn’t yet adopted and felt like we were in a strange, new world. I made eye contact with Tessa at lunch, and she gave me the warmest, brightest smile I’ve ever had from a stranger. Since then, I’ve thought she was wonderful.

When people talk about childrens mental health though, does it never get questioned that instant validation of a child (and its usually a girl) saying they are trans or non binary or asking others to use different pronouns about them - is raising more and more concern among MH practitioners. In no other type of dysmorphia is the solution to go along with the dysmorphia.

I have worked in a number of psychiatric hospitals with people who want to have limbs, and some have, chopped off limbs because they didnt want it or felt they didnt need it/it was distressing them, but that is treated as a MH disorder, no one goes along with it and makes up a name for it and arrangements operations to remove that hand or arm etc.

Verity kept saying it was unfair on young kids and mentioned an 8 year old

Are there 8 year old trans people? Shouldn't 8 year olds and young kids be having fun and running around playing tag? Rather than worrying about such things

I don't understand these issues but im trying to

According to Stonewall, about 2-3 weeks ago, there are toddlers who are transgender. 2 year-olds and such.

Women who have ever taken testosterone would have to go in the open category I suppose or would they be banned entirely from all categories for doping?

Couldn't they identify as Trans Women? I mean, they'd smash the 'living as a woman' thing wouldn't they?
(Only slightly tongue in cheek question!)
