Identified as trans at 12 , on blockers and testosterone by 13, double mastectomy at 16. At 17, she realises she's made a terrible mistake.

nypost.com/2022/06/18/detransitioned-teens-explain-why-they-regret-changing-genders/

These young women are so brave coming forward. It must be so hard to admit to the world that you're not trans and that you were led down a path that is utterly wrong for you. And from which there is no coming back. She will never be able to regain her breasts and may never regain her fertility.

The doctors performing these irreversible surgeries and prescribing irreversible medications should be struck off. It's utterly barbaric.

One day this will be a criminal act.

Who in their right fucking mind lops the healthy breasts off a 16 year old girl?

fucking monsters.

mrshoho · 18/06/2022 18:34

Wow that was quick! I'll post again but not mentioning ukw.

This girl and the many many others are the reasons why transgender must excluded from conversion therapy bans. HCPs need to question and unravel the reasons why people seek to change gender and undergo medical treatments. Mutilating healthy bodies is barbaric.

Maybe once the lawsuits start rolling in this will stop. Too late for this young girl sadly.

FOJN · 18/06/2022 18:36

The article says she had her double mastectomy at 15. I can barely believe there are surgeons willing to perform such surgery but we know there are because of cases like this and many others.

I saw a Canadian and American lawyer discussing the legal cases which will arise from trans affirmative healthcare. The American lawyer characterized it as medical malpractice. They also discussed the likelihood that children would sue their parents for allowing them to receive this "treatment". Parents are between a rock and a hard place; refuse to allow gender affirmation treatment and you could have your child taken away or you might end up prison or support your child and be sued by them if they later think it was a mistake.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 18/06/2022 18:39

Awful stories with tens of thousands more to come as these children grow up and realise the implications of what's been done to them.

dropthevipers · 18/06/2022 19:00

Surely, of all the things about this sodding bonkers religion that will cut through to the ordinary person in the street, it is this. This will make the thalidomide scandal look like a fuss about nothing.

And yet parents have been repeatedly told that their choice would be between a dead son/daughter or a trans daughter/trans son, and at least in the US schools sometimes hide from the parents their child's social transitioning etc.

That is a horrible situation for the parents to be in. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

mrshoho · 18/06/2022 19:10

Wasn't there a case of a Canadian father who was charged with child abuse for not affirming his daughter's gender identity or going along with the medicalisation treatments? He was lumped in to the same category as a parent who physically harmed their child.

DOBARDAN · 18/06/2022 19:21

What a world we're living in.
Sadder than sad

In the UK too, I'm sorry to say.

I think it's (conversely) an argument for including trans people in the conversation therapy ban WITH a very clear descriptor of what constitutes conversion therapy.

Clear legislation which does not interfere with competent, ethical psych or medical professionals who are trained in working with trans / gender questioning young people facilitating identity exploration and which bans conversion practice is necessary.

mrshoho · 18/06/2022 19:47

Yes in an ideal world exactly that @anystropheus . Unfortunately at present professionals who question and do not immediately affirm are often accused of administering conversion therapy.

prettybird · 18/06/2022 19:50

Whatever happened to informed consent? ConfusedHmm

Yes there was. He was featured in Matt Walsh's film

Thank you for correcting Chloe's age @FOJN

I have a 15 year old. It makes me feel nauseous.

@anystropheus The problem is that groups like Stonewall and TRAs are pushing affirmative care model only, and trying to label any questioning, open therapy as conversion therapy. Look at Nancy Kelly’s tweets about Dr Az Hakeem for their position. We all wish this was possible, but with Stonewall the way they are, it isn’t safe for the majority of (ultimately non trans) children.

KittyLeMew · 18/06/2022 20:34

Can we just all do our best to amplify detransitioners’ voices, whether on social or via supporting, raising awareness of, or contributing funds to support groups. These stories tell themselves and it’s vital they are shared.

lunar1 · 18/06/2022 20:37

😢 absolutely heartbreaking

MangyInseam · 19/06/2022 00:06

I have wondered if it's stuff like this that will finally blow the lid of this here in Canada. In my province all of the surgeons who do "gender affirming" surgery have recently left or retired. The reasons are supposedly just personal, but I have really wondered if maybe they don't see the writing on the wall as far as the potential for being sued, or maybe the insurance companies do and have increased their premiums to where they can't pay them.

We don't see these stories in the media, though.

NotBadConsidering · 19/06/2022 07:29

It’s amazing to me how doctors desperately listened to the lamentations of adult trans people who wished they hadn’t gone through puberty because it means they don’t pass as well, and made the dramatic leap to medically transition the next generation as children, but the same doctors completely ignore the lamentations of detransitioners who equally don’t want the harm they’ve suffered for anyone following them.

I think it's because the voices of the adult transitioners are male while most of the detransioners are female. It's pain old patriarchy at work.

I was struck reading Lucy bannerman's interview with Alex how puberty blockers actually are shit for girls who think they want to be boys. They stunt growth for a start, making them even less likely to pass than they would have done if they'd gone through puberty. For boys though, they do achieve their objective - a prepubescent boy is going to look much more like a woman growing up than if he'd gone through male puberty.

It's another example of the one size fits all approach to healthcare - where male is default.

I wonder if the parents in that scenario would end up having to sue the clinicians who informed their understanding of "better a trans [X] than a dead [Y]" as the only plausible options.

On another thread, RedToothbrush made a very astute comment that applies here.

Without fail, whenever ideology mixes with medicine you get a scandal.

The natural childbirth movement is a classic example.
