Jo Phoenix: case management meeting today

Jo Phoenix is a criminologist who was bullied and harassed out of her job at the OU for her views on sex and gender. She has an Employment Tribunal (with Ben Cooper representing her) in the pipeline.

I'm wishing Jo well today because she has her case management preliminary hearing, at which the date will be set for the tribunal. Today's the day when everything becomes concrete and financial commitments are made.

I notice Jo's garden's been looking a little untended. If anyone wants to help with the landscaping they just have to google Jo's name to find the location.

She only has 2 days left to garden. 😬

I know that Jo and her partner fear losing their home if they can't cover Ben's costs. I know he's good but he's also eye-wateringly expensive.

Oh, forgot to add, I think that deadline may be extendable. But if anyone was thinking of donating and hasn't yet done so, perhaps best to do it now?

There seems to be such 'inequalities of arms' in these cases. The employees attempting to avail themselves of their legal rights need to have so much money to obtain decent legal representation, which of course they do not have; while the institutions and companies who behaved poorly and allegedly unlawfully can just close ranks and throw money and barristers at it.

I think the deadlines on crowd justice keep extending. Its only the initial target that has a real deadline, then after that it has a countdown that keeps resetting presumably to generate urgency. I don't think the person has any control over that. (I don't know for sure, just something I've picked up from donating to lots of funds.)

Heartened to read Jo's account of the welcome she received at Reading. Hope things continue well for her there.

Yes, Reading does some to be a beacon of free-thinking enlightenment. If I understand correctly, a relatively new chancellor has been responsible for strengthening academic freedom there. Other universities, take note.

Very pleased to see that about Reading University. I used to be a lecturer there earlier in my career and have fond memories.

They can expect a high number of applications, I would anticipate.

I just tried but when it came thru to bank app it kept saying I pledged £0 via LEGL.

Anyone else had this problem? Is it cos I said no to supporting CJ with additional £?
