That's it, really.

She really follows through. Splendid woman.

mrshoho · 13/06/2022 08:27

I do too! This glorious Woman uses her position and wealth as a power to do good. Her impact is far reaching and history will vindicate her. She could so easily have opted for a quiet life and kept her reputation untouched. I 💓 JKR!

Pluvia · 13/06/2022 09:26

Good on her. Jo, there's an army of women behind you.

catandcoffee · 13/06/2022 09:34

Amazing Woman

FunnyTalks · 13/06/2022 10:18

She's wonderful. If I'd received the shit she has, I'd not be able to stay so reasonable.

plumbago · 13/06/2022 10:20

I belong to an Iris Murdoch group on Facebook, and yesterday one of the admins enthusiastically posted this Twitter photo of JKR brandishing The Sea The Sea. But all too soon war broke out! Someone wrote: "I hope the posting of this picture was a mistake. I am waiting to see if it will be removed and I believe an apology should be offered. I don’t want to have to leave this group, but I will if transphobic views are supported by the moderators." Oh no - is there no escape? Luckily most of the many replies were pro-JKR. The final result was 114 Likes for the original post and 5 Likes for the protest, at which point comments were turned off in order to avoid bloodshed on what is normally a very studious page.

bellinisurge · 13/06/2022 10:37

The noisy children aren't used to being asked to justify their nonsense. I'm so impressed with her fortitude. People uninvolved with or disinterested in all this are going "Hang on, JK Rowling is a bigot? Really? How do you make that out?" And the sunlight floods in.

Supersee · 13/06/2022 10:41

I'm on a FB group for women with a large following and someone posted a question about buying clothes ethically but somehow managed to squeeze JKR's name in there which lead to the obvious. I was heartened to see messages of support for her before comments were turned off. I really thought it would be the opposite.

achillestoes · 13/06/2022 11:27

The entitlement is out of this world. ‘Tremble before my political beliefs and apologise for your own or I’ll depart this place forevermore.’

Okay. Don’t let the door knob hit you in the arse on your way out.

Amelanchier · 13/06/2022 11:34

@Supersee i am on that same group and very nearly posted a comment but held back. Picking where I battle still. The gratuitous shoe-horning of disagreement with JKR into that post was something else!

ThinkingaboutLangClegosaurus · 13/06/2022 11:52

Oooh, I want to join JKR’s Barmy Book army! I looked it up:

Great stuff, JK and Woman for Women.

LizzieSiddal · 13/06/2022 12:41

Lovely to see this. What a woman.

DOBARDAN · 13/06/2022 12:51

Brilliant woman, thank you JKR for all you do ❤

Supersee · 13/06/2022 12:56

@Amelanchier I did comment! I had to debate with myself whether to as I don't usually put myself out there, and there are loads on that group who know me, but I feel really strongly on this topic. And I'd had a glass of wine haha.

Amelanchier · 13/06/2022 13:31

@supersee good on you!

EdinburghFeminist · 13/06/2022 13:34

@supersee I'm pretty sure I'm in that group too, I saw the original post and rolled my eyes but forgot to check back and see if there was much push back on it. Can't find it now so I'm glad to hear there was a bit at least!

I really don't get why she's been treated the way she has, it's ludicrous.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 13/06/2022 17:42

I reckon she's been key to so many 'ordinary" people seeing the systematic bullying and appalling rape /death threats that numerous activists like to employ. When an avowed leftie, a remainer who's given away so much of her fortune is targeted by men - young and old - with vile sexual abuse and death threats, they notice and make the connection between this and how all women are treated by so many advocates of this ideology.

And now - like so many of us, she's stopped pandering to them.

Do it! If you have a look on Twitter, you'll see that the book club has got a number of different local chapters now. It's fantastic.

ThinkingaboutLangClegosaurus · 13/06/2022 18:54

I’ve been searching online, Atuin, and I can’t find any way of joining except by getting a Twitter account. Don’’t say I’ve got to dive into the cesspit of Twitter! Or should I see that as an initiation challenge to prove my worthiness to join the Barmy Book Army? Or does it have any other online presence?

At least I’ve found out where to buy the T-shirt!

I don't think they give a damn, hayknow. They know what they're doing when they send death threats and try to get people sacked. They're not going to be shy about using verbal abuse.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 14/06/2022 12:11

What happened to the People’s Peers?. Because I’d can’t think of a better person to be nominated.
