It was a bit depressing to find out the restaurant attack wasn't just random. I was optimistic enough to think that it might just have been a coincidence, and not everything is related to this mess...

He got pretty much roasted in the comments. Most of the posters thought he had been pretty wet not to have noticed before how dire the situation for women was becoming, and to have toed the let’s be kind line whilst ignoring the fact that the ‘opposition’ are anything but kind.
There was also pretty much general rejection of his continuing intention to use requested pronouns if they did not match the biological identity of the person, and the ungrammatical nonsense of the the plural used for a a single individual.

of course , this was at 8.00 am, just after ‘opening time’. Possibly Things will have changed to right think by now.

Interestingly, I stopped subscribing to UnHerd last year because of the general BTL misogyny . There seems to have been quite a change since then.

FFS, this whole “I know 2 people who’ve transitioned and they’re lovely” talk really pisses me off.

Sorry about the twat confusion! For what it's worth, I always have thought GF was a bit of a twat. Odd how we can say that on the Feminism board with impunity, given what it means, and not the other thing, but there we are, it's a funny old world, etc etc.

I don't think there's any proof that the attack on the restaurant was connected, but it's a remarkable coincidence if not, given they'd just had a sudden surge of 1* reviews from all over the globes accusing them of transphobia and poor hygiene (unfounded claims on all fronts, from the sound of it). I'd not heard of this restaurant before and it's not local to me, but I feel a strong urge to book a table there now. The menu looks marvellous and the genuine reviews are very good.

And yes, it is annoying that GF has suddenly felt minded to speak out because of this, but it's still better than continuing to keep stum.

I couldn't read the article on UnHerd today because I've used my free limit for the month but I can read the comments and they are I think the best part of it because they discuss the use of language and why we shouldn't yield to the altered language, preferred pronouns and so on. I often think that when people say it's only being polite. It's about much more than that.

So it might be safe now to come out as gender critical?

I do feel angry at this world which let all those brave women face the storm all alone, when so many of them got fired and threatened and so on.

I have begun to keep extensive records so that when the "where were all the women to stop this?" and "why didn't feminists do anything?" statements begin to get increasingly common.

Otherwise the history of this era won't even mention Mumsnet! Or any woman other than JK Rowling who is too big to be erased.

Still, better late than never.

The restaurant owner was on triggernometry - it was a good watch. The owner made some really good points - he employs people who might struggle to get jobs elsewhere and he laid out the impact of these negative reviews on these people and their families.

A bit besides the point, but I ate in Il Portico last year, and it was excellent. The manager came over and introduced himself and welcomed us personally, and the food was amazing.

It reads like a bandwagon jump. That's cool with me. We just need more.

He is a bit of a t**t. He wrote a piece a couple of years ago about how women with elderly parents should be looking after them rather than hiring carers.

Still, one more person speaking out on the side of righteousness has to be a good thing. At this stage, I'm not fussy.

The sex caste with supporting roles must be kept in their place.

Of course he is only moved to comment on something when it affects a male acquaintance.
