CEO comment on trans

My CEO has just made a comment during a (global) strategy presentation about D&I re a 9 year old in Texas whose parents were threatened that the child would be taken away if they gave them hormone blockers. This resulted in child not being taken to ED when ill as parents were worried they would be caught.

CEO thinks the world is a terrible place because parents live in fear of authorities if their child is trans. Not that it's a terrible place to give a 9 year old hormone blockers. Speechless.

What?

A pair of parents gave their 9 year old puberty blockers against government guidance then refrained from taking that 9yo to hospital when they were actually ill in Texas?

Yeah things are pretty shit for that 9yo, and not in the way your CEO thinks. Fucking hell.

things sounds messed up both ways in texas - it is bad that the kid is being given hormones without medical supervision AND it is bad that the kid could be taken from the parents if they access proper medical care. that just pushes these families further from help.

He basically added get off the bus if you don't agree with me as well!

I'd love to get off the bus I really would.

Some responsible adults have to remain on the bus.

You could ask him to spell out how this view aligns with the company's safeguarding policy and the law, just in case any of you are ever asked to explain.

I don't know what sort of company you work for, but there should be a safeguarding policy somewhere.

Shock

Seriously wondering how this is a suitable subject for a CEO in the workplace to be discussing. I mean how is this related to the actual business in hand?

If it's not, I'd be putting in a formal complaint to HR as frankly this is pretty offensive and has no place in a work call.

The world has gone mad.

JazzyBBG · 09/06/2022 10:57

I would love to complain but I'd be gone and I can't afford that.

He's American if that gives any additional context. I don't know much about how things are viewed over there other than you should be able to get whatever medicine you need if you pay.

We have a new womens network so I will be interested to see how we are defining women...

PS he also conflated Lesbians and Trans so not sure he's quite as right on as he would like to think.

Imagine having allies who are quite this indifferent to actually having a decent grasp of the people and issues whom they effect to champion.

Mind, it's indicative of a widespread problem. I'm deeply troubled by individuals who present microcosms of the misinformation and disinformation tactics of hostile actors.
