Restaurant that helped JKR raise money for Ukraine harrassed and vandalised

The right side of history indeed. I hope the police catch these arseholes.

"The week I get harassed by evangelical TRA's, my restaurants get anonymous & generic bad reviews by trolls with similar pseudonyms.
All due to helping raise money for Ukraine with the lovely JK Rowling and Suzanne Moore.

You sure about that right side of history claim fellas?"

In the same week as the online accusations of being homophobe for sticking up for JK Rowling and Suzanne Moore, followed the fake bad reviews, now someone has smashed in the windows at portico and ransacked the place. Could obviously be a coincidence, but what a few days!

I hope that is a ghastly and ill-timed coincidence.

I would be deeply disappointed to learn that passion for an ideology underpins these wretched actions because a restaurant was civic minded enough to raise money for an appeal for the benefit of the children of Ukraine. This is the wording of the appeal.

We’ve been supporting the government in Ukraine to reform the care system to better protect vulnerable children and prevent family separation. The invasion by Russian forces means more children are now in danger.

Lumos has been working extensively in the Zhytomyr region of Ukraine, west of the capital Kyiv, an area now under attack from Russian forces. Prior to the invasion, there were over 1,500 children trapped in orphanages in the region, and around 100,000 children living in institutions in the country.

Children in Ukraine face an uncertain future and are at risk of displacement and family separation. We urgently need your support to help protect as many children as we can by providing emergency food, hygiene and medical kits, and by helping to support families and foster carers to look after displaced and traumatised children.

TRAs are absolute lunatics.

CompleteGinasaur · 03/06/2022 16:39

TRAs Black Pampers = smashing up benches and shopfronts since term finished..

Madcats · 03/06/2022 17:04

Poor owner. Well I like the look of the menus; so that's rather backfired on the bullies.

Look at the money Lumos raises and the good that it does for vulnerable children. Then you get trans extremists deliberately harming them with fake online reviews. Depressingly typical.

TheBiologyStupid · 03/06/2022 19:41

Shocking - coincidence or not, I hope those responsible are brought to justice.

Did you?

whats its got to do with the restaurant being vandalised?

I didn’t read the whole thing because it looked to me like it had fuck all to do with anything frankly

It's about time some of these TRA extremists were considered potential terrorists, the police got off their arses and unpainted their politically-motivated multi-coloured response cars, the Police & Crime Commissioners realised what's going on and did their jobs, and the politicians supposedly in charge got a fucking grip.

It is interesting, and I'd be interested to know what your thoughts are on people who refuse to discuss the harassment and vandalism of businesses by people in the name of trans rights.

mrshoho · 03/06/2022 22:03

absolute toerags showing their despicable true selves.

Bearsinmotion · 04/06/2022 10:11

It interested me in the sense of why it was published. It seems like quite a minor story and made the connection to JK very prominently. Do you think the BBC would have covered a minor dispute like this if the landowner was anyone else?

I live locally to that property and there has been an ongoing issue for access for years. Infrequent articles but pretty sure most of the papers have covered it previously. It does get brought up that she is JK but it predates her “cancellation”.

Yes, I've read many stories of different celebrities and right of access over their land over the years.

But what really interests me would by your thoughts are on people who refuse to discuss the harassment and vandalism of businesses by people in the name of trans rights, and would rather discuss unrelated stories instead.

Not the point of the thread but Il Portico is going on my list of restaurants to try in the future.

@BootsAndRoots
“I'd be interested to know what your thoughts are on people who refuse to discuss the harassment and vandalism of businesses by people in the name of trans rights.”

That the harassment of business in the name of trans rights could include publishing non-stories with a tenuous link to a known target of TRA ire just to smear her?

PonyPatter44 · 04/06/2022 19:53

I like the look of that Il Portico place. My best friend and I are heading to London quite soon, we might eat there.

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/06/2022 20:13

They've got vitello tonnato, which is one of the most delicious foods in the world.

Very well said!

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 04/06/2022 20:39

Menu looks great and owner sounds thoroughly decent. Going to London in a few weeks, will try to book a table.

CruCru · 05/06/2022 10:24

Il Portico looks like a nice restaurant. Kensington is quite far from where I live but perhaps I’ll make the trip.

FrancescaContini · 05/06/2022 11:14

Perhaps a group of us should get together and visit en masse?!
