Er.... despite what people will have you try and believe on here, the word woman hasn't been banned, you know.
You won't melt into a puddle or get banished to the Tower or whatever for referring to yourself as one.

Is 'whoosh!' a thing on MN?

puffyisgood · 02/06/2022 23:35

well - this language is exclusionary since so many women (including, as Ricky Gervais pointed out, nearly all the best ones) are immune to these conditions, also I should think that most of the actual sufferers who are worth a damn would be what you'd at most call 'assigned female at birth'

mind you, you do see plenty of, as far as I can tell, completely earnest chat on social media about trans women suffering from PMS. the first crop of endometriosis etc cases surely can't be far off?

I think they've realised how despicable they've been and are trying to make amends. Personally, I need a full apology including a decent acknowledgment of just how awful they've been. Nonetheless, I am pleased to see the back peddling. I'm hopeful that in a year or two, we'll look back on all this madness and be like wtf was that all about?!

Not being funny, but are you on drugs? Until Viner's cold dead fingers are prised off the editorship of the Graun it will remain woke central with special emphasis on TWAW.

@dropthevipers Chance would a fine thing! Alas, two kids and a full on job. I'm hoping for a mis-spent retirement.

Fair enough. I wish I could share your optimism re. the Graun, but I just dont see it ATM.

I attended a talk by Shon Faye recently. She read excerpts from The Transgender Issue. They spoke about the toxic environment in the media and the public being whipped up into a frenzy of moral outrage. I think someone asked about the press and Shon alluded to the fact that there were ructions going on within the Guardian and she had friends or knew people that worked there. I can't remember the exact words but the jist was that the issue was pretty much split along age lines and that the younger journos who were supportive of the trans community would win out - basically because the 'old' gender critical types would die sooner. It was said in a light-hearted fashion (Shon was once a stand-up comedian as we were reminded). But Shon seemed pretty confident that The Guardian would not fall.

Problem with that argument is that younger women grow up.

MrsMidClegs · 03/06/2022 23:22

@dropthevipers It's not Kath Viners that's the problem. She could quit but would be replaced immediately by someone else towing the line.
