"Chromosomal fundamentalism is counter-intuitive mendacity"

i.e. anyone who says they believe in two immutable human sexes is a lying fantasist.

Not enough eye rolls in the world.

Another boring attention seeker, that one.

GCRich · 31/05/2022 10:23

[GCRich clicks on thread, notes with surprise that Stella Creasy has failed to win it for the 4th day running, leaves thread]

Awiltu · 31/05/2022 10:27

GCRich, there certainly are a fair few contenders at the moment.

They all think if they can dress this nonsense up in fancy important-sounding polysyllables it will suddenly sound credible...

I thought a strong contender was Graham linehan for saying he's not sure the patriarchy exists, or if it does its an accident.

Artichokeleaves · 31/05/2022 10:53

I think the prescribed MN answer to that would be a head tilt and u ok hon?

Its like listening to Sir Humphrey on tartrazine.

Foilball · 31/05/2022 10:33

I thought a strong contender was Graham linehan for saying he's not sure the patriarchy exists, or if it does its an accident.

Except that that's a pared-down, out-of-context cherry-pick of what GL actually said in reference to Owen Jones.

"I’ve never seen someone so devoted to increasing the rights of his own sex, even when it causes great damage to the rights of the opposite sex. You know? That’s what patriarchy is, if it exists. I’m not sure about its existence as a system. I think it’s kind of accidental, in the end."

He's saying that men don't necessarily sit there rubbing their with glee deliberately, consciously creating a patriarchy, but it arises as a natural consequence of the misogynistic attitudes and actions of men like OJ.

There certainly are too many contenders. This one is right up there though. Needs to give that brain a rest I think.

Thelnebriati · 31/05/2022 12:27

Does Private Eye still do Pseuds Corner?

MagnoliaTaint · 31/05/2022 12:34

'One of the things you realise as a Women of A Certain Age is how rapidly the body can transform. It is not a stable entity. Doesn't mean it's not real, but it's constantly morphing. You change a lot.

Makes chromosal fundamentalism look like the trivial poison that it really is'

So she's saying that because women age, men can become women? Is that what she means?

Antarcticant · 31/05/2022 12:37

Thelnebriati · 31/05/2022 12:27

Does Private Eye still do Pseuds Corner?

They certainly do!

They've had a number of GC cartoons recently so it might be right up their street.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/05/2022 12:41

One of the things you realise as a Women of A Certain Age is how rapidly the body can transform. It is not a stable entity. Doesn't mean it's not real, but it's constantly morphing. You change a lot.

But in all the billions of cases of women's bodies maturing and changing, not one has ever changed sex. Almost exactly like there was some fundamental piece of biology underlying being a woman....

A twit who uses an excess of long words is not clever, they're just a pretentious twit.

Awiltu · 31/05/2022 12:45

Apparently.

It's such a topsy-turvy viewpoint. The stereotyped gender expectations society associates with the female biological sex are used to oppress/disdvantage/discriminate against women, so let's criticise belief in biological sex rather than belief in gendered expectations?

My body has changed as I have got older but I haven't grown a penis yet.....when does that happen?

MangyInseam · 31/05/2022 12:47

Lots of intelligent people don't think the patriarch exists. Mary Harrington, orCamille Paglia, for example, neither of whom is stupid or uneducated. I don't see why even just saying it straight out would qualify as a winner.

DadDadDad · 31/05/2022 12:50

@Awiltu - I'm really hoping the missing word in your post is "hands":

He's saying that men don't necessarily sit there rubbing their with glee deliberately, consciously creating a patriarchy

As a man, I can confirm I've not been invited to any meetings of the patriarchy to discuss how we advance its cause, but I can appreciate the analysis that says there are things I do and think that might help support certain structures that give men an advantage - as Linehan says, by accident more than design.

MagnoliaTaint · 31/05/2022 12:53

One time I woke up and I'd grown a bollocks on my left ankle. By lunchtime, it had gone again. The next day, penises sprouted all over my spleen like a sort of internal rash. Also, my chromosomes change like the weather. I'm feeling a bit Y-ish this afternoon, but it'll pass, it always does.

Yes, it was definitely supposed to be hands!!!

Clearly deleted one word too many when editing😳

All of these transformations are just exactly the same as some women having brown hair and some women having grey hair and some of us getting wrinkly or finding our menstrual cycle disappears when pregnant or menopausal, of course. Putting on a bit of weight can also be a side effect of variable chromosomality.

I am experiencing quite a few menopausal symptoms but growing a penis isn’t one of them

'One of the things you realise as a Women of A Certain Age is how rapidly the body can transform. It is not a stable entity. Doesn't mean it's not real, but it's constantly morphing. You change a lot.'

This quote makes me feel like the subtext is 'if you aren't young, slim and beautiful any more then you don't serve any purpose as a valid woman, if you're wrinkled and overweight then then you've lost your womanliness and you might as well be a man now.'

After all, the changes of middle age are nowhere near as rapid as the changes of female puberty, that's when you really know how fast your body can change.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 31/05/2022 13:03

Somebody put wordwank in the comments, my thoughts exactly.

IheartJKRowling · 31/05/2022 13:33

As a menopausal woman I realised I did, in fact, have a penis but then I divorced him and all is well again.

Should I actually grow one I will send a picture of it to Stella Creasy so she can make the mythical female penis her new Twitter avatar.

Highlyquestionablehoumous · 31/05/2022 13:54

I'm sure a while back the 'if you dye your hair and it turns brown, that's just the same as taking hormones and changing sex' line was trotted out by TRAs.

It grows way too late to reap the benefits of enhanced pay or sports performance…still waiting …..
