Very good discussion of the UCU's 'Motion 38' that would declare being gender critical to be inherently 'transphobic'. It points out that this be (a) unlawful and (b) against the ethos of trade unions.

Historically, trade unions have recognised that allowing workers to be blacklisted or censored for our political activity prevents us from organising, and enables employers to victimise union members.

Freedom to campaign on the political issues of the day is an essential pre-requisite for democracy in general, and for workers’ rights specifically, and to give up that freedom and hand employers the right to vet our political work will be to our own cost.

UCU is not a real trade union (I’m a former member). It just identifies as one and lets a group of very privileged people cosplay as oppressed workers. “Solidarity!”

HE really needs an effective, focused form of workers representation given the exploitative, insecure conditions lots of people work in. UCU isn’t doing it.

Tsk, right wing media hate articles to appeal to their privileged Tory readership!

The UCU are a disgrace and not fit to call themselves a trade union. They should collectively hang their hands in shame at even dreaming up this stupid motion, let alone seeking a mandate to enforce it.

It is surprisingly similar to the Deputy leader candidates in the Labour Leadership election calling for anyone who supports 'Woman's Place' and other similar groups to be expelled.
I had already resigned over Corbyn but that incident cemented my desire never to support Labour again. Totally Orwellian and undemocratic.

Great article.

😂😂😂

Although sadly, they’re cosplaying with peoples actual livelihoods.

Yet none of them have any shame or even insight that their behaviour is intolerant, oppressive and misogynistic. And these are the people speaking on our behalf. (self censors further comments).
