I removed my monthly contribution to their political fund - you can opt out and save a few pounds a month. When I thought about the campaigns it was funding that was a no-brainer.

Oh I didn't know that you could have different levels of contribution? Interesting 👍

@Circumferences yes, it is good they backed down. It's just pathetic that they had to. They're so far out of line about what they should be doing it's ridiculous.

Unions are there to support the working conditions of their members not police their members political, religious or philosophical beliefs!

Yes, they don't fall over themselves to tell you about your right to withdraw your contribution, but keep scrolling down and there's a PDF at the end

withdrawn my political fund donation as well. I'm not supporting this rubbish more than I have to. If only they didn't have a monopoly.

UCU were threatened with legal action - or rather, some amazing feminist members suggested the resolution might be illegal.

I left last year and joined Affinity. After 30 years of membership no one asked why.
I should have left a few years ago.

Interesting. I'm in UCU and about to take my employer to tribunal for the reasons you might think.

Oh dear, hope you are holding up ok. Sounds awful

@moofolk If you don't get any joy from your campus UCU reps, try your regional reps. And try the paid employees rather than academic volunteers.

DM me if you'd like some personal experiences of student complaints of transphobia ... There are a lot of us about!

UCU are an embarrassment, they're so busy on things like this that they forget their core remit.

When we had a consultation on redundancies a few years ago they completely ignored the grades they're supposed to represent regardless of membership, right up until the time of a vote. Then they had their hand out for membership fees, wrapped around hyperbolic messages, having conveniently remembered the existence of the non-members whom they represent.

As I say, an absolute embarrassment.
