Ordering GC books from university libraries

One of our Resisters who's doing a course at the local university noticed that Shon Faye's book was being promoted via the university library, which on inspection turns out to own several copies. So she's asked them to obtain Trans by Helen Joyce and Irreparable Damage by Abigail Shrier. There was some initial reluctance and lots of questions were politely asked and answered, but she persisted and they have agreed to it. The fact that she's older and knows her rights appears to have won the day. She'll be going back to them in the coming weeks requesting every other GC book she can think of.

Perhaps others of us here who are doing university courses could check the libraries and do something similar.

Well done her. That's a good idea.

The local public library had a quote on the wall which I liked: "A good library contains something to offend everybody."

For those outside of university life most local libraries now have a method of requesting/suggesting books to purchase.

I’ve checked my local library. The county have four copies of one and one of the other. All out on loan. I’ve reserved both.

Usually based on my knowledge, and I could be wrong, but when it comes to budgets it's if the books are going to be used in lectures for assignments, etc then that's priority, vs just people wanting x book for a reading in general, so to speak.

But this is a serious book, an absolute must-read for anyone on a Gender Studies course — surely?

Faye’s book is hardly a piece of serious scholarship

Depends on the perspectives of the academic course leader and the reading list, as to weather they view it as a credible academic research material etc, at least that's my guess.
