Quite an unpleasant tweet (just for a change) from Mr Tatchell, accusing young pro football players of “cowardice” for not coming out as gay.
We’re seeing more and more of this attitude. Rather than acknowledging that coming out as gay or bisexual is a deeply personal decision and nobody else’s business, it is increasingly positioned as some sort of let-down to a more corporate ‘identity’, where anyone who is gay and just doesn’t want to discuss it is ‘hiding who they are’. This is a form of shaming. Sexuality is personal, and most professional footballers are both very young and very much in the public eye.
