Tatchell trying to guilt/shame young professional footballers into coming out

Quite an unpleasant tweet (just for a change) from Mr Tatchell, accusing young pro football players of “cowardice” for not coming out as gay.

We’re seeing more and more of this attitude. Rather than acknowledging that coming out as gay or bisexual is a deeply personal decision and nobody else’s business, it is increasingly positioned as some sort of let-down to a more corporate ‘identity’, where anyone who is gay and just doesn’t want to discuss it is ‘hiding who they are’. This is a form of shaming. Sexuality is personal, and most professional footballers are both very young and very much in the public eye.

Back to his roots and "Outrage" 🙄

ElenaSt · 24/05/2022 18:30

Tatchell has always been vile and wanted to push his agenda on everyone else.

Deliriumoftheendless · 24/05/2022 18:31

Tatchell has long had form for wanting to out people.

MayorDusty · 24/05/2022 18:31

Is it true Tatchell was offered national treasure status?

Deliriumoftheendless · 24/05/2022 18:32

How does he feel about revealing people’s trans status? 🤔

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 24/05/2022 18:54

We should be thankful he's talking about the professional leagues, not the under 12's teams.

It’s about time Tatchell publicly came out as a twat.

Everyone knows anyway, so why try to deny it? It just brings shame on other twats.

Fair point

hes a nasty piece of work as my mother would say

tabbycatstripy · 24/05/2022 19:04

Well, I was going to make some obvious jokes but I’m fairly sure they’d get me banned.

And if footballers do come out as gay, will he then accuse them of transphobia if they refuse to view the opposite sex as potential partners?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/05/2022 19:47

Abhorrent demand. No man is obliged to sacrifice his safety, career or private life to progress the public acceptance of the minority to which he belongs.

tabbycatstripy · 24/05/2022 19:50

‘No man is obliged to sacrifice his safety, career or private life to progress the public acceptance of the minority to which he belongs.’

Tatchell said 75% of football fans don’t care if a player is gay. That means a staggering 25% do care. A quarter of a stadium full of homophobes isn’t to be made light of, is it? Nobody should be pressurised to out themselves.

OP posts:
PurgatoryOfPotholes · 24/05/2022 20:07

Indeed. Contrary to Tatchell's implication that 25% is a minority to be ignored, it is my unhappy observation that a football stadium is exactly the place where men would feel that such a number licenced them to shout the most vile abuse. They wouldn't care what the other 75% thought about it.

BootsAndRoots · 24/05/2022 20:14

The demand for people to come out comes across as the "doing this for the greater good" argument. But it's almost as if Stonewall and gay rights activists have some sort of ownership over your life just because your sexuality is similar.

tabbycatstripy · 24/05/2022 20:32

‘But it's almost as if Stonewall and gay rights activists have some sort of ownership over your life just because your sexuality is similar.’

It’s to do with extending a political power base. It’s no different to calling people class traitors or race traitors. It’s about a demand for one aspect of their identity to subsume others, and it’s not fair or right. Obviously if someone ‘comes out’ I support them and I condemn abuse, but it is not an obligation. It’s private.

This reminds me why I took against him years ago when he was 'outing' miscellaneous celebrities. I thought it was a rotten thing to do, celebrities, even gay celebrities are entitled to private lives.

tabbycatstripy · 24/05/2022 21:07

That’s terrible!

Even if 100% didn't give a toss, it's nothing to do with Tatchell if someone doesn't want to publically discuss their sexuality. He needs to stop obsessing about sex.
