Lowerson is a surfer who won the Western Australian longboard male title in 2019.

Depressed as hell, Lowerson gave up surfing, shaping, but once she decided to transition and the female hormones kicked in, woke up one day in February, felt a little better, called up Surfing Australia and said,

“Umm, this is me, the last time I competed in your Australian titles I was third, what are you going to do? I was pretty frank about it. We can do this two ways. We can do it together and make it amazing or we can do it terribly and it’s a circus and you guys are the only ones who are going to come out looking silly… I’d prefer to not go through that.”

Are all the LGBTQ community jubilant?

Every day I am more and more gobsmacked by this: today, there's this story and the skateboarders. How do people just wave this through and let this happen? That Germaine Greer quote about us having no idea just how much men hate women, well I these last 5 years have been a hell of an eye opener - do you really hate us this much, men? And if not, can more of you start showing us you don't?

Most of the comments were in support of women in sport, not some 40+ male born person who now says they are a woman. There's some hope if the public are aghast, even if sports bodies roll over at the distance mention of TQ faux outrage.

If Sasha had competed in the male category, Sasha apparently still would have won.

And he calls himself a girl, so creepy.

True, but how would Sasha have felt all girly and affirmed if Sasha was beating hairy arsed blokes rather than dainty little ladies like Sasha.

I couldn't give a stuff what sex you are, what gender you claim to be or whether you identify as a fucking unicorn.

This person is an arrogant, entitled, cheating twat.

Who the hell does he think he is?

A 43 year old - odd male has taken the place of females on the surf circuit.
A male skater has taken 'best tricks' prize and a placing from a female in the US at the Red Bull Skateboard Minneapolis event.

And people continue to try to use the 'not many' argument to minimise all this.

This is so, so unfair.  for the actual first, second and third placed women.

As an aside (and a bit off topic), is anyone else creeped out by the use of 'destroys' in the headline. It's the kind of language that has migrated from pornography sites over to mainstream outlets and it always bothers me

So. Basically a threat.

Translation: Give me what I want, or I will make this into a circus and I will tell you that you will look silly to make sure you give me what I want. I am a 43 year old male and have been around a long time, I will make sure this is a circus and damage your reputation.

And... I think that this surfer is about to realise just who will be made to look 'silly' that they thought that a) no one would notice and b) that females will just budge over and 'be kind' to make a 40 something male feel better about themselves.

I had the same reaction but actually I think it's intentional and the writer is taking the piss out of Lowerson. It's hard to tell because so much TWAW stuff is beyond parody, but I don't think the author is on board (no pun intended) at all.

Did some of the media reporting describe Lowerson as a 'strawberry blonde'.... like that matters, and like any credible media these days would be describing a female in that way. (note: I said credible. Not something with a 'New Idea' style of reporting)

He asked for Farrah Fawcett. He got Camilla Parker Bowles.

God this makes me mad. The whole ‘be kind’ and ‘TWAW’ madness is big in Australia. A politician objected to men in women’s sport and vulnerable young people making irreversible changes to their bodies and was hauled over the coals for it.

50% of the population are being sacrificed so the feelings of trans people aren’t hurt. In fact I don’t even think it’s all trans people. Most of them just want to get on with their lives like most of us.

The writer of this piece was having a laugh, as they are all, really, apart from a few inexplicably fawning women.

That assumes men and women are judged entirely in the same manner and scores are calculated in the same manner. Is this the case in surfing?

So we get skateboarding and surfing victories for transwomen within two days? Not so rare.

Several of the transgender winners have been quite a bit older than their competitors. The NZ weightlifter, this surfer, the boxer who broke someone's jaw. I also read about a Paralympics trans athlete who won both the short sprint distances in some games after transitioning who is over forty.

This could just reflect the statistical fact that men tend to transition much later than women (who appear to transition as teenagers now). Still, it's interesting.

I finally found it.

Here is an Australian skateboarding comp, where the female event was won by a male. I heard about this event, Yarra Downhill Festival in March last year but it had snuck under the radar for a while.

People are finally talking about it.

Ahria Everett took first place from a woman. Downhill skateboarding is relatively new. This event feeds into the team choice for representing Australia in World Roller Games in Argentina in November 2022.

It is such a new sport and the organisation Australian Skateboard Racing Association has little online presence. They have a Facebook page though. And the women’s event results seem to be missing from that weekend.
