Where do I do my shopping now? I want to write to them and ask if they have committed to single-sex spaces as well. 'Cos, you know, safety and all?

And if they have 900 trans identified staff members, how many Moslem staff members do they have? Were they asked?

Hope this backfires on them and every single staff member declares a non-binary identity. After all, we are who we say we are.

prettytoes · 18/05/2022 06:55

Most vulnerable and marginalised Hmm

More like most pandered to and 'special'.

Of course everyone should declare themselves non binary, that's the only way to demonstrate how ridiculous these policies are.

A Coles spokesperson confirmed to Daily Mail Australia gender affirmation 'can be any process that a team member undergoes to affirm/confirm their gender identity'.

'This may be in the forms of social affirmation, medical affirmation or legal affirmation.

Social affirmation?
So you can get paid time off for hanging out with your friends who are all 'affirming you gender identity' ? Or does it mean time off for posting on Twitter and Instagram saying how fabulously gender identified you are?

Can't see anyone abusing this.🙄

Interesting Sandgroper. Thanks for posting.

Has there been a push back from other groups of people who do not get extra leave entitlements. For instance, those with significant health issues who need extra treatment days? Do they get the time off they need?

Or is this a group deserving of entitlements others do not get?

Because it seems other groups would have a case for discrimination if the entitlements are not available to their specific unique needs.

Coles have 120,000 employees so 900 is still a relatively small percentage but even so it does seem high. I wonder how they got to that number - ie what specifically they asked their employees.

ItsLateHumpty · 18/05/2022 10:03

I wonder when they’ll start having to put prices up to cover the extra paid holiday… or are they prepared to loose profit margin ie put their money where their mouth is 🤔

Id be prepared to stop shopping there, cancel my flybuys, my house, contents, and car insurance and change to another credit card if they expect me to be out of pocket for this pandering.

TheSandgroper · 18/05/2022 10:43

Well, to be fair, the cost to Coles can perhaps be spread across a few businesses, if their accounting model allows for this.

But imagine the cost if it happens in them all?

oooh .... I still have flybys!!! [goes and check 'Australian' wallet...]

DifficultBloodyWoman · 18/05/2022 11:26

I usually shop at Coles and I like the flybuys programme.

But I am pissed off and I live closer to both Aldi and Woolies.

HoppingPavlova · 18/05/2022 11:30

I’d be identifying as non-binary in a shot.

aweegc · 18/05/2022 12:38

There are quite a few non-binary identities though. And NB-identified people don't always stay in the same category. There could be a few "social transitions" for any individual under this heading! 😅
