No mention of how it has limitations. It’s all “you mustn’t be gay”.

Tasmania is one of the most progressive states in Australia - which is odd given their history or coming late to the party. Bit of a hippy island and left leaning such as Brighton in the UK

Helleofabore · 17/05/2022 12:42

Really Mishy? Most 'progressive'?

How do you then explain how Tasmania brought in laws that does not allow abuse victims to name their abusers? Which got thankfully overturned.

I know many Tasmanians and not one of them is a 'hippy'. Where on earth do you get your information?

Helleofabore · 17/05/2022 12:51

And in the 2019 Federal election 2 seats went to LNP, 2 to the ALP & 1 to a independent candidate.

Tasmanian also currently have a LNP Premier.

So.... not really convincing on the 'left leaning' claim either.

Tasmania is cold and so are the people.

MagnoliaTaint · 17/05/2022 14:12

I've never heard the phrase 'rainbow children' before. Seems a bit ... what is the other one? Magenta children?

Helleofabore · 17/05/2022 14:20

Yes, I always wonder upon hearing Rainbow children or family. I question any 'child' who knows they are LGB.

MagnoliaTaint · 17/05/2022 14:34

'Around 4 per cent of the group had attended conversion practices through programs, group work, counselling and interventions that were aimed at changing their sexual or gender identity.'

The examples used are two lesbians and a gay man.

That's fine. Why is 'gender identity' being stuck onto this?

Helleofabore · 17/05/2022 14:53

Why is gender identity being stuck onto this?

Because the state is following Victoria, ACT (I think) and Queensland governments tacking gender identity onto conversion therapy bills.

MishyJDI · 17/05/2022 16:45

Lived there. Its very green, left focused - even if the liberals are running it!

Helleofabore · 17/05/2022 16:49

Yes... it known to be very lush and green. 😉

Currently, it is still definitely a Libs state and therefore not 'left' as you have said. At best it is centrist at the moment.

And out of all the Tasmanians I know, still don't know any 'hippies.'

Whaaaaaa? things must have changed since the last time I was there - like about 10 years ago ... It was the redneck state - people driving around with shotguns in their car boots.

I think it would be the equivalent of saying the entirety of Northern NSW are 'hippies' because of a few groups in Murwillumbah, Byron etc. Umm... no, not really.. And Bob Brown nor Christine Milne are not serving members of any level of Australian parliaments anymore either so I am not even sure the Tasmanian Greens have much strength or influence over the Australian Green Party even .

Indeed! In my experience the north coast have transplanted metropolitans, and the old hippies from the Aquarius festivals in the 70s - but both groups were & are still resented as blow ins.

And we saw, when Pete Garrett was a Minister/in government, just how difficult it is to get stuff done. It was interesting watching him - those outside government always say "Why don't they just do ...?" and then if they do get into some sort of government position, they realise why ...
