Is this an exercise in willful ignorance - how can he not know?

twitter.com/theJeremyVine/status/1525876648922464256

Daily Mail journalists manage to get their heads round it and write a report. No-one at the BBC who can do that?

I notice that Bev Jackson of the LGBA is in the comments offering to come on and explain - wonder of she'll get the courtesy of a reply of if he will speak to any of the women who were there?

And while we are on the subject of men sticking their heads in the sand has Andy Burnham said anything about masked men intimidating women on Manchester streets or is he ok with it?

OP posts:
IcakethereforeIam · 16/05/2022 13:04

I've seen nothing about it on the Manchester Evening News website.

ChristinaXYZ · 16/05/2022 13:08

Do you mean nothing about Burnham's response or about the situation at all @IcakethereforeIam

OP posts:
IcakethereforeIam · 16/05/2022 13:12

Both.

hamstersarse · 16/05/2022 13:13

I've not seen so much of these protest things, but isn't one of those masked people a woman?

axolotlfloof · 16/05/2022 13:18

I guess that's the point of them being masked - they are unidentifiable and it makes their intimidation easier.
I am sure there were women there, but they weren't standing for women, were they?
I think the masked "pound shop ninjas" were a massive own goal for the men's rights activists anyway.
Hopefully Jeremy Vine is off doing his research.

Circumferences · 16/05/2022 13:51

Well, hopefully Jeremy Vine will work it out and see all the raging misogyny for what it is...

Supersee · 16/05/2022 13:57

Jeremy knows. He has his pal Owen Jones on his show every other week.

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 16/05/2022 13:57

Hopefully Jeremy Vine is off doing his research.

The research will be him waiting for a man to tweet explaining why women shouldn't meet and talk around a statue. Then he can go back to calling women wrong for being mean to men. Classic Jeremy.

WinterTrees · 16/05/2022 14:32

I've noticed a definite change in his attitude over the last year or so. It wasn't so long ago (pre-pandemic) that he had a TW on talking about transitioning in their late 40s or something (impact on wife and children glossed over quickly, and the TW made out to be a victim in the ensuing fracturing of the family) and JV was doing his special soft voice, and actually said afterwards to the woman who comes in to read the traffic news 'wasn't that extraordinarily courageous?' To which the traffic woman (Bobby Pryor, iirc) said dryly, 'well, it was certainly extraordinary.'

I think he's much more aware of the whole picture now (he tweeted about listening to the Nolan podcast and said it was an incredible piece of journalism or similar) but he's far too invested in being Mr Popular Everyman to risk rocking the boat. He also has an incredibly cushy number there and a vast salary to consider - he wouldn't want R2 to decide he's a bit too old fashioned in his views and should be replaced by someone with a more 'progressive' outlook. He's got teenage daughters, so I guess he'll have some insight into the impact this is having in schools and on young women on social media etc. I think he's decided to adopt that disingenuous 'I'm just an ordinary bloke who doesn't claim to understand you ladies' Louis Theroux approach. He's one of those powerful men who could be genuinely useful in facilitating discussion, but he's chosen to just pretend ignorance, which I find pretty despicable.

BigWoollyJumpers · 16/05/2022 15:32

Don't forget Matthew Wright had to resign following one of his guests, wasn't that Chase women, making a rude remark to a TW, and failing to apologise for it. I am sure Jeremy Vine doesn't want to go the same way.....

BigWoollyJumpers · 16/05/2022 15:33

Yes, here you are: Paris Lee and Anne Hegarty:

Paris asked her fellow guest: "So you don't think there's an old boys club at the top then?"

To which Anne replied: "No, no, not really. Well, you used to be a boy, you'd know that."

Which is pretty innocuous TBH. And that's all it took to end his career.

ChristinaXYZ · 16/05/2022 15:34

Agree with you here "He's one of those powerful men who could be genuinely useful in facilitating discussion, but he's chosen to just pretend ignorance, which I find pretty despicable" @WinterTrees Vine and Burnham both I think. I'd like either of them to prove me wrong in the next few days but am not holding my breath.

Yes Icake, I've been checking MEN site and seen nothing either. Which is odd, because the recent WPUK protest was fairly well covered with lots of photos of protesters.
Maybe Sunday's were the wrong sort of protesters.

IcakethereforeIam · 16/05/2022 22:05

I think it's harder to spin this to make the wimmin look bad. Mind you I'd have thought that about the WPUK meeting.

Did Anne apologise??

This is Jeremy, nearly a month ago, responding to the ongoing discussion around the theatre production The Family Sex Show. I do not believe his show acknowledged any of the replies from feminists and concerned parents that he received. For screenreaders, this is a visual of a tweet from Jeremy Vine in which he is quote-tweeting a thread from This Egg with the line What's this all about? It looks to me like Jeremy Vine asks to be spoonfed information on twitter, which he then ignores if politically inconvenient.

@PurgatoryOfPotholes I don't know why but I've found that incredibly funny. Smile

Can't believe you'd post something so breath-takingly transphobic, PurgatoryOfPotholes

Unfortunately not. I may have discovered a new bug with New and Improved Mumsnet, so I think I'd definitely like some medication to help me calm down right now.

If I'm right, the next post after this will do it again.
