#I support a trans inclusive ban

Has anyone else seen the pictures of various MPs holding pink boards saying this?
a combination of smug idiocy, but also totally incomprehensible, to me, anyway. What they're trying to say is that trans should be included in the conversion therapy ban. But I do know a bit about this (thanks largely to MN) and I'm not sure that that is the message that will come across.

OP posts:

I follow all this and I still thought it meant ' I support single sex spaces'

In fact I was coming on to say I don't like the sign as I thought the emphasis should be placed on women's rights.

What are they trying to say? I genuinely have no idea!

smallbirdwidesky · 11/05/2022 16:11

Oh, just seen you explain it in the OP!

Mysterioso · 11/05/2022 16:20

Looks like boaty mcboatface type of democracy has come to parliament.

Somanysocks · 11/05/2022 16:23

It's almost like they think up stuff to make themselves a target for ridicule.

I too read it the opposite way to their meaning, and love the twitter mock ups.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 11/05/2022 16:34

I would love MPs to hold up signs heralding what they think and are too afraid to actually say.

It would be a start.

And about as likely as me losing 5 stone by next Tuesday.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 11/05/2022 16:35

And the Twitter link is quality.

UtilityPlayer · 11/05/2022 16:37

I was disappointed to see my local MP doing this yesterday too, and have sent her the Cass Review interim report and the report on the “ban” campaign via Sex Matters email tool. I'm not holding my breath for a reply from her.

Peregrina · 11/05/2022 13:23

Could someone tell me what it actually means. I can understand that with trying to convert homosexuals, it was to try to stop them being attracted to the same sex.Hence Alan Turing and chemical castration.

How does it affect transpeople?

Because for example a lot of young people who are gay will instead say they are straight but the wrong sex, thereby potentially putting themselves on a medical pathway which could have adverse effects on their health and fertility. Counselling such children that raises this as a possibility, or raises the possibility that there are other issues at play (eg ASD, MH, even victims of CSA for example may attempt to identify out of their abuse by claiming they are trans) is seen as conversion therapy and thus would be banned if it was included in the legislation.

I wonder if Stonewall left the signs yesterday?
Good time to remind everyone to write to their MP even if your is holding up a stupid sign.

bellinisurge · 11/05/2022 18:18

The signs are unclear garbled nonsense. Most people who aren't engaged on this will think "Oh yeah more of that stuff. Whatever".

WhiteFire · 11/05/2022 18:36

Has there been any accusations yet of it being right wing / evangelical Christian / nasty feminist sabotage?

bellinisurge · 11/05/2022 19:01

They are so desperate to create a Christian Right myth, aren't they?

Artichokeleaves · 11/05/2022 19:09

Well it's difficult! The church of England really doesn't do much other than a nice cup of tea and some cake, and is very laid back, not to mention low attended - they really don't lend themselves well at all when you're urgently looking to pretend it isn't just every day people with a real actual problem so that you can shout a lot of slurs and dismiss them. #shoulddobetter

Peregrina · 11/05/2022 20:36

The CofE does have its Evangelical types, but I don't think even though are quite so batshit crazy as the American right wing Christians are.

Peregrina · 11/05/2022 20:37

even though = even they

Redshoeblueshoe · 11/05/2022 23:12

I saw the moleatthedoor things on Twitter, I hadn't realised MP's were actually stupid enough to do this shit

Enough4me · 11/05/2022 23:22

I was surprised at a poster saying trans should be included in being banned, then realised that it's like all the gender theory and does not make any sense and they've mixed their message up again. Maybe it will be fixed by 100 new banners saying "you are what you feel you are" or similar nonsense today I felt older and like I wanted to retire, I'm mid40s so that isn't happening.

@Fenlandia , I can’t see read that tweet because “this account holder limits who can see their tweets” or something similar.

Could you give me the gist of what it said?

(I follow people with a variety of views on Twitter, not sure why I can’t see that one.)

quixote9 · 12/05/2022 02:48

Indeed. According to those tests they give you in high school, my reading comprehension is through the roof. I have a Ph.D. I spent my life in academe. And I read that as "I support a ban that includes trans people," meaning: ban them all, also trans people.

(Which struck me as odd, so I looked at the thread to see what sort of new group this was. I try to keep up. I fail.)

Redshoeblueshoe · 12/05/2022 07:44

Tomorrow - one example is Ed Milliband holding a poster saying
This is what virtue signalling looks like

WandaWomblesaurus · 12/05/2022 07:59

That's now a list of people who need to lose their jobs when the detransitioners court cases hits.

Fuckwits.

Mandodari · 12/05/2022 09:25

They could have saved a lot if confusion and just handed out a banner saying 'Females, shut the fu*k up and do what you're told'. Would have been less confusing and closer to the truth

Yup. That.

Or 'I'm a closet male supremacist' would also do it.

GibbonsGoatsGibbons · 12/05/2022 09:46

My SNP-bot MP is there 🙄
I've sent the sex matters email (sex-matters.org/posts/updates/no-ban-on-talk-therapy/ ) but don't expect a reply.
