I am having some building work done in my house and under the floorboards was a copy of the Sun newspaper from 9/9/81. I found this article placed prominently on page 3, next to a scantily clad lady, (I’ve edited the image to protect her modesty). The misogyny in the reporting is incredible. The language and description of the incident sounds like some top shelf magazine.
The only mention of the poor woman is about the colour of her hair. Nothing of what an ordeal it must have been for her to be subjected to this. It must have taken a lot for her to report it.

After reading it i’m not sure that much has changed within the Police in the last 40 years, if recent reported cases are a true reflection of what goes on.

I wonder if Susan actually continued in the Police after this.

The Sun has always been a despicable rag.

Ugh. Disgusting man. Can well believe he benefited from the jury being in awe of a senior male officer. But as you said, perhaps the worst part of this is how little has changed 40 years on. Cops still abusing women, backed up by one another and the establishment.

Susan was 19 years old, and the Inspector was/ is a despicable middle aged (38yo) letch.

As PP said, nothing changes.
