ARIA accused of transphobia for nominating Nolan podcast on Stonewall

This is fabulous. GrinGrinGrinGrin

More than 150 radio producers have written an open letter to ARLA complaining that Stephen Nolan's podcast has been nominated and threatened to pull out of the award ceremony (the Oscars for radio). Happily the Academy gives no ducks:

The academy said: “At this year’s Arias, Stephen Nolan’s work has been nominated in four categories.

“Those four judging panels comprised 38 judges, which we can confirm included LGBTQ+ people. All panels reached their conclusions independently based on the strength of the entry submitted.

“We’ve recently had conversations with a group of audio professionals concerned about the nominations, and we hear the issues they’ve raised.

“We thank the group for engaging with us in the way they have and look forward to further conversations with them to ensure the Radio Academy remains an inclusive place for everyone in the industry.”

Hopefully he will do an investigation into whether those who are calling for this are part of Stonewall’s diversity program, and challenge their independence, that will really rile them up 😆

Ducks? Fucks! The academy gives no fucks.

Probably don't care about ducks either.

Is 150 radio producers a lot, are they part of one group/union? How did they come together to object.

Whatwouldscullydo · 04/05/2022 09:21

All he did was uncover stuff that was already there. Those facts exist whether people agree with the conclusions made from them or not.

If you don't want to he discovered in a situation that could be seen as havung an agenda and some secret inner circle perhaps don't put yourself in that position where you cant remain.impartial.

You cant just be angry at those who find you out.

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 04/05/2022 09:27

I love it when they fail to cancel someone- you wonder how many just signed the petition out of fear that not signing it would look like they are supporting him.
It goes against everything investigative jounalism should be about, to try and censor Nolan it is so anti democratic, shame on them.

Absolutely. He gave a huge amount of airtime to Ben Cohen and to that green haired welsh mayor.

I suspect the delicate little flowers haven't actually listened to the podcast in case they have a fit of the vapours.

Looks like they’re still going for No Debate

DomesticatedZombie · 04/05/2022 09:45

Oh no! People are raising awareness of the Nolan Podcast! Quick! Support them! Make a lot of noise! 😀

DomesticatedZombie · 04/05/2022 09:46

Let's just hope nobody accidentally goes and listens to the podcast more after hearing all the fuss. Because it's totally AWFUL and SHOCKING.

DomesticatedZombie · 04/05/2022 09:47

It's so easily found by googling, too. Shocking.

That is quite transphobic though.

You wouldn't give airtime to expose the general public to the views of the more extreme gender ideologues if you supported their cause and wanted them to succeed, would you?

Yes, I was confused too! The radio awards are the ARIAs.The Nolan podcast didn't win but I'm very pleased it was nominated. I wonder if the world of radio production is like the world of publishing - all very cosy and saccharine until someone has the temerity to step out of line, and then the iron fist slips out of its velvet glove.

InfinityWoman888 · 04/05/2022 10:28

Quote from Belfast Telegraph
'Mr Nolan, who also presents 5 Live radio, told The Times that colleagues in the broadcasting corporation suggested the investigation about lobbying by the LGBT charity could affect his “career and safety” and suggested the subject was “untouchable”.'
Late to the party, I have spent a lot of time informing myself since Labour's Shadow Equalities Minister Anneliese Dodds' shocking inability to define what a woman is on radio 4s Woman's Hour on International Woman's Day! Followed by Kier Starmer's misrepresentation of law about what defines a woman and him a former barrister. The effect left me momentarily politically bereft - Respect my Sex if you want my X is not a political party but woman are mobilising.
sex-matters.org/take-action/respect-my-sex/
Stonewall, now informing and training in almost every major institution in the UK, need modifying. They are actually trying to silence intelligent woman's voices to promote their own agenda and thus far seem to have actually gotten away with it. Because so many, mostly young, people need to show how 'woke' they are in this very confused world, the hard fought and won rights for women are being swept aside in Stonewalls quest for dominance over the direction of the moral compass!
Thankfully the tide is now turning, I have so much gratitude for strong woman like
JK Rowling
Maya Forestater
Professor Kathleen Stock
Rosie Duffield MP and
Barrister Allison Bailey who is currently engaged in a court battle with Stonewall over her gender critical views. Read about her amazing life journey and please support this very courageous woman, this is another very important landmark case.

"Freelancers who have worked with the BBC have signed the open letter, along with production company Long Cat Media, which has announced it will boycott the Radio Academy unless it reverses its choice of nominations."

www.longcatmedia.com/press-kit afraid the only name I recognise is Sooz Kempner and that's only because she does anti-women activism on twitter sometimes. According to this she is also a singer and comedian!

Oh her! Woman who identifies as a comedian on Twitter which is the only place I've ever come across her. Not surprising I guess, given she appears to be spectacularly unfunny
