Inconvenient crime stats

Irish crime figures exactly the same as UK figures often quoted on here.. 98% of sexual offenders are male and 80% of victims are female. Depressingly, half of those victims were under 18. Keep hoping for a better future for my daughter but does not look like things will change anytime soon.

It's almost as if there is a pattern involving one linking factor.....

Quick....
Someone needs to say NAMALT !

In Ireland the Road Safety Authority has started putting out ads (I've heard them on podcasts) that highlight how men are much more likely to commit road offences

Mandodari · 27/04/2022 13:50

@miri1985
I heard those too, thought was imagining things. Have you heard the ones about Smart glasses and how to recognise when someone is photographing or recording? Don't know if it a promo by Meta/FB or a public service warning but all I think is great, another reason to never use communal changing rooms.

Wish I had recorded the RSA one at the time because there seems to be some sort of rotation of ads and I can't find it in any of the podcasts I listened to last week.

Haven't heard the smart glasses one, so creepy but good for women to be informed

Found the stats the ad in the podcast was referencing in case anyone is interested www.rsa.ie/road-safety/campaigns/male-drivers

It's funny, whenever anyone quotes statistics about male violence, a proportion of people will get quite angry about it. Like, furious.

sawdustformypony · 27/04/2022 14:01

What's so inconvenient about them - isn't it pretty well accepted that of those committing sexual offences, the vast majority will be male.

Oh and by the way, yes, NAMALT!

Believerinbiology · 27/04/2022 15:06

Inconvenient for those who try to convince you men pose no risk, women are just as bad as men etc. Have a look on any of the threads on this board about MVAWG and you'll see posters popping up to tell you about how violent and deviant women are and who will post about 1 exceptionally rare case to try to prove their point.

Ah yes - the headache of making sense and reporting of crime stats !

DomesticatedZombie · 27/04/2022 16:25

Oh, honestly. I've had men try to convince me that the wives of despots and dictators must have been just as bad as they were, for staying married to them.

I wonder if women will ever get (deserved) cheaper insurance again like we used to until the men complained
