The response to their tweeted legal opinion re ACAS advice to employers "encouraging" pronouns on work emails provoked a hostile but interesting response on twitter. To the point that it may have provided proof re impact of doing so being objectively harassment of gender critical members of staff (now protected under the PC of religion and belief)

Good work Legal Feminist. I’ll be saving a copy of this against the day this comes up in my own workplace.

Brilliant article and yes, very clear evidence as to why women who believe in biological reality will be scared of working somewhere that demands pronouns.

The misogyny is so stark it's really chilling.

Reminds me of Helen Lewis's 2012 Twitter comment: "Comments on any article about feminism justify feminism" . This particular breed of MRAs very reliably do our work for us, and every time they do I see all over again why 'no debate' worked so much better for them

A very clear and well-argued blog post.

When I thought about the question of preferred pronouns in greater depth, I did realise that giving our pronouns supports the interpretation of 'women' and 'men' as mere abstract identities and not as biological sexes.

This is because the preferred pronouns also include 'they, them' and various neo-pronouns used by those who identify as non-binary.

If their pronouns are for gender identity and not for their sex class (given that they are extremely unlikely to be anything but male or female themselves), then so must mine be.

And that means that everybody is actually informing others about their gender identities when giving their preferred pronouns. And so buying into the system.

Pronouns. Funny things.

I was speaking in the phone to a relative today and her doctor - her first language doesn’t use the old he’s and she’s…

She managed to mispronoun me and her doctor several times during the conversation (if she is tired or not concentrating it all goes out of the window).

We both survived the trauma

Same old response on woke Twitter, "You shouldn't have to put pronouns in email signatures", response "why are you calling for the erasure from existence of trans people?".

I had no idea that refusing to put useless information in an email signature leads to genocide.

When you speak to someone you don't use their pronouns, you use their names. Pronouns are used for talking about a third party, not for direct conversation.

I can't deny the same thought didn't occur to me...

Loads of trans right activists on Twitter saying that it’s just nice and kind to use preferred pronouns. It helps people and supports minorities so why not just do it? By the exact same reasoning it could be nice and kind to participate in group prayer at work and take part in Christian rituals but why should anyone be compelled to do something they don’t believe in? I think it is perfectly possible to support trans people without having to use preferred pronouns.

How can it be nice and kind to signal adherence to an ideology that places rapists in female prisons?

That analysis by the Legal Feminist is brilliant. Very clear.

Especially as, despite us all knowing that refusal to use preferred pronouns results in naked hostility, hundreds of people actually provided her with evidence. Very useful.

Same people who scream their heads off at the suggestion of a religious assemble in schools. Be kind, my bum…
