Mermaids ‘stories’ - disturbing

If you copy this link and you go on the Mermaids website, and look down at the story of an 11 year old child (“Jenny”), you will see it.

What is going on there?

No decent person does a meet & greet in anyones bedroom except in some really unusual circumstances where perhaps one of them is bedbound with complex health conditions that meant they can't get out of bed.

It doesn't even matter whether it is the childs bedroom or the adults, they have no healthy reason for being in there together.

You would have to be very twisted to want to support Mermaids.

All they do is make any product with a Mermaid on it seem unwholesome just as I now associate rainbows with child molesters.

Why do they always set out to destroy innocence even with names & symbols?

LizzieSiddal · 23/04/2022 18:32

Three questions for me-

Why are they dressed like that?

Why are they on a bed?

Why do Mermaids think that is an ok picture to put on their website?

And today, NK is having a go at anyone who wants to talk about “grooming”.

What a shower of delinquents they are.

tabbycatstripy · 23/04/2022 20:16

Agree with everyone saying it doesn’t matter if this is a ‘meet and greet’, it’s just inappropriate.

Mermaids is presently occupied with a fundraiser, which they've retweeted:

This is the guy doing the Pepsi Max hot tub which "might dissolve my skin":

Still I'm sure once this event is over, they'll attend to the pictures of a child meeting an adult in a bedroom on a bed.

Clangyleg · 24/04/2022 00:01

bloody hell.. I wish I hadn’t looked..

Kanaloa · 24/04/2022 03:07

How creepy and odd. Also, real life little girls just don’t dress like that, so why would a child who wants to be a girl be dressed like that?

My daughter (and every other girl her age) wears leggings or trackies with t shirts and hoodies. As does my son basically. The only people who dress like that photo are a certain subset of Japanese fashion called ‘Lolita fashion’ or sissy porn fanatics.

Kanaloa · 24/04/2022 03:09

You do have to wonder about the parents though. My oldest two are 11 & 10 and I’d be aware of any activity online like this. Even the school ask you to sign permission to use their photos for certain events, so I can’t imagine a situation where my child would be photographed trussed up in a Lolita dress and drag makeup on a bed with a drag queen online and I wouldn’t know. Which leads to the presumption that this child’s parents did know and thought it was fine.

FatFucker · 24/04/2022 03:30

That poor poor child.

I want to report that picture, but to who?

How awful. That poor kid.

tabbycatstripy · 24/04/2022 07:14

Rather than say ‘that’s Scaredy Cat’, I’m going to say ‘That’s Alex Chubb’ (probably also a professional name).

Cubb does comedy. Might be funny to some people (drunk students?) but if you watch this clip there are preoccupations with violence, children and sex.

What sort of parent takes their 11 year old to meet these people?

Also seems to have a very beautiful singing voice but the lyrics of his songs surround depression/death /suicide/getting off his tits.

And that’s fine. Young people often do like dressing up in goth clothes and singing songs about the weight of the world.

But 11 year old children shouldn’t be involved.

I too remember this pic. I cannot believe that it is still there. I also remember posters who cannot see the issues. Just like those who support Desmond. Just like posters who could not see past a boy dressing up in the John Lewis ad (FFS it was not about the boy dressing up at all, it was about the sexualized behaviour of that boy)

There really is a degree of blindness around this issue.

tabbycatstripy · 24/04/2022 07:31

Tweets under @ allycubb.

Apparently used to be a blue tick account but lost the blue tick, was off Twitter and recently returned. So we can all see the content.

Cubb - not Chubb. 😆

Sushi7 · 24/04/2022 07:39

It seems that “Jenny” likes dressing up like a drag queen rather than being a girl. Maybe “Jenny” is an effeminate boy and wants to show off his creativity with drag makeup but is confused due to the trans rhetoric he reads about online (ie. If you like girly things then you must be a girl - which is sexist).

tabbycatstripy · 24/04/2022 07:56

It’s just all sorts of worrying, isn’t it?

tabbycatstripy · 24/04/2022 07:59

On Twitter there’s also attention being drawn to Mermaids’ safeguarding standards when it comes to their streamer fundraising campaign.

Mermaids promote the livestream beforehand and the money raised goes to them.

In this case, it’s a man (comedian who has a channel aimed (I think) at teenagers). He’s wearing black leather underpants, sitting in a hot tub full of Pepsi, pouring Pepsi on himself while wearing a weird deformed baby mask and talking about people breastfeeding from him.

Mermaids previously publicised this ‘event’.

A children’s charity.

OP posts:
tabbycatstripy · 24/04/2022 08:00

He also wears a dolphin mask and has previously referred to the dolphin as the “sex dolphin”.

There is, tabby. I'm writing to my MP today. Surely there are enough 🚩 here for action to be taken.

tabbycatstripy · 24/04/2022 08:04

I seriously hope so.

tabbycatstripy · 24/04/2022 08:14

The hot tub guy is John Robertson. He has a popular Twitch stream, a YouTube game in which he plays some sort of dark overlord, and he’s written a children’s book published by Penguin. The comedy is described as “insult comedy”.

This is to point out that he’s not some obscure perve. All this is part of his brand.

But what it goes to illustrate (as does Drag Race and it’s child-friendly aesthetic and deeply inappropriate content) is how far the sexualisation of children’s content is becoming embedded in the media. It’s mostly about anti-establishment thinking, not (in my opinion) paedophilia.

But it normalises the proximity of children and sex. It normalises talking to children about sex and using sex in comedy aimed at children.

Mermaids should be resisting it, particularly in the interests of the vulnerable children they claim to represent.

OP posts:
tabbycatstripy · 24/04/2022 08:18

And obviously Savile got away with his crimes by being high profile. Sometimes people look at a person in a position of notoriety and they think, ‘They can’t actually be promoting the sexualisation of children’ (or worse). They’re famous. People would notice.’

We do notice. And useful fawning idiots ignore us.

OP posts:
tabbycatstripy · 24/04/2022 08:43

About ten seconds into that stream, you know he’s into sex, death and whips, and describes himself as perverse.

BettyFilous · 24/04/2022 08:57

Given the ineptitude of that Mermaids data breach, which was off-the-scale appalling, I can well believe they are out of their depth in other areas like safeguarding. Worrying.

tabbycatstripy · 24/04/2022 09:02

They just don’t care. They have worked out there is money in targeting the young adult ‘market’, and are immersing their very young client base in highly sexualised areas of the Twitch community.

On Twitter there are photos flying around of John Robertson’s Pepsi bottle erection and making some sort of parody penis with the fizzy bottle.

All right next to the Mermaids brand and with their online endorsement.

Madness.

OP posts:
ResisterRex · 24/04/2022 09:05

The data breach was dealt with by the ICO. But they were also referred to the Charity Commission and the results of that have never been known. One for any letters you might be writing.
