Has just had a very funny swipe at TRAs vilification of JKR on BBC Radio 4 Paul Sinha's Perfect Pub Quiz (on now and will be on iplayer sounds thingy later)

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0016hfl

About 10 minutes in. Very short but very Grin
FWIW he's openly gay and also a qualified doctor

But he also just referred to the LGBT community when he could, being a gay men, just talk about the gay community. Waiting for the day someone on Radio 4 says LGB and TQ+ instead of welding us together.

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/04/2022 19:00

True, but it's a start.

I also liked this question on this evening’s House of Games on BBC2

Have they cut it? I heard the question, and the answer of 1997, but nothing else.

TheBiologyStupid · 22/04/2022 00:35

@HighDudgeonAtBerks

"Have they cut it? I heard the question, and the answer of 1997, but nothing else." - It's still there, about 5:55 minutes in.

SpinningForVictory · 22/04/2022 09:10

Never heard this show before. It's very funny.

I bet he unnerved some of his hip audience with that comment about JKR.

BlubFestival · 22/04/2022 09:25

I don't understand. I don't think it was a swipe at TRAs. It seemed like a swipe at JK herself, no?

DismantledKing · 22/04/2022 09:26

He’s very TRA on his Twitter account

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 22/04/2022 09:29

It was a swipe at Rowling you numpty.

LuckyAmy1986 · 22/04/2022 10:54

Can anyone tell me what was said please as I don't want to have to create an account?

rabbitwoman · 22/04/2022 13:02

Was that a trick, to make us witches tune in and maybe hear a bit of TRA nonsense that would make us change our minds?

The Sinahman basically said there would be no questions on jk Rowling because she was unspeakably awful - the audience cheered.

He said that not reading Harry Potter used to make him look like a grumpy old grandads but now it makes him look like a really trendy trans rights activist and he didn't even have to do anything.

No,paul, it's quite evident you have not read a single thing she has ever written....

SpinningForVictory · 22/04/2022 13:28

The nervous laughter was quite telling

LuckyAmy1986 · 22/04/2022 13:38

Oh wow

Sofasogood1 · 22/04/2022 13:41

They did not cheer - it was almost silent!!

It wasn't obvious either way in my opinion

Sofasogood1 · 22/04/2022 13:47

'I feel uncomfortable writing questions about [ Harry potter ] given what we now know about j rowling...'

Pause for effect and then silence.

'..that over a number of years she wrote tedious novels about wizards.'

Laughter.

'though I do like the fact that my refusal to read her books used to make me look like a reactionary joyless old man and now makes me look like an ultra woke trans ally.'

Laughter.

'and all I had to do was nothing!'

Laughter.

'very much my kind of activism.'

ClaudiusTheGod · 22/04/2022 13:52

I’ve just listened to this now. While I think that Sinha is almost certainly an apologist for trans issues at the moment, I bet you he thinks that his comment can be taken either way in the future. He’s playing it safe.

FannyCann · 22/04/2022 13:53

I heard it last night and thought that was a nasty little dig at JKR.
Then I noticed he referred to the LGBT community when talking about lesbians but when he got in to talking about men they were gay.
I don't know, I'm not usually looking for reasons to take offence and I don't think of myself as being on high alert, I was driving home after a tiring day not taking a lot of notice and it's the first time I've heard the programme but it seemed like he was trying to slip sly digs in under the radar.

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/04/2022 13:56

Ah, maybe you're all right. I can see from what you're saying that it could be taken more than one way Blush

Interesting to see comedians testing the water with regards to making jokes about JKR. Thanks for sharing OP.
