Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Someone's been stickering. But what does it mean?

Someone's been busy stickering all the lamp posts/telegraph poles near me. Usually when this happens the stickers are along the theme of "twaw" and "trans rights are human rights"

The latest offering is "transpeoples happiness is real"

I honestly can't work out what the stickerer is trying to say.

Can any one shed some light?

No idea but they need to sort out their apostrophes slinks back to Pedants Corner

DomesticatedZombie · 21/04/2022 15:43

seems pretty meaningless harmless.

Unless it's talking about 'gender euphoria', which for the sake of your search history I encourage you not to search for.

Absurdle · 21/04/2022 18:24

I think if I had to post stickers on lampposts broadcasting to the world that my “happiness is real,” I’d suspect myself of being deeply in denial of something.

WellThatsMeScrewed · 21/04/2022 18:26

I thought stickering was a crime now? Quick call the police.

IstayedForTheFeminism · 21/04/2022 19:49

It definitely seems harmless (whilst also being literal violence)

But what's the point of stickering a message that doesn't make sense. Isn't stickering meant to make some kind of point? Confused

They lose a point for lack of apostrophes, but gain one because it was coloured on nicely Wink

Could it be part of a two sticker effort?
make everyone wonder about this odd bit then add a second part later
1/"transpeoples happiness is real"
2/ logic/whatever makes us sad

Cuck00soup · 21/04/2022 21:19

It means transpeople's stickering is kind and fluffy and glittery.

Compared to feminist stickering which is literal violence.

I think.

Pluvia · 21/04/2022 21:35

Crikey, yes, feminists and their violent scientific facts. I thought most of the surveys that have been carried out on people post-transition have indicated that in many cases transition makes little difference to happiness levels and in many cases people detransition?

Ahgoonyegirlye · 23/04/2022 08:26

If I saw that I would take it to be a comment on all the de-transitioning stories that are around at the moment -

TeamSukhareva · 23/04/2022 09:08

I noticed these a long time ago - 2019 I think. "transhappiness is real".
I think it's a detail part in a huge corporate advertising and PR campaign intended to attract customers for hormone subscriptions and surgeries. This style of publicity is called "astroturf". It pretends to be grassroots activism.

SpringBadger · 23/04/2022 11:46

Bit childish of me, but I'd be very tempted to take a black marker and strike out the first three letters of "happiness"...

But yes, I think the idea is to persuade the world that it's got nothing to do with mental illness and there are never any regrets - so nothing for us to clutch our pearls about, full steam ahead on the puberty blockers and whatnot.

TeamSukhareva · 23/04/2022 12:27

It's a hashtag and there's an insta account.
The approach is to target vulnerable young people who are suffering from loneliness and depression with promises of friendship and happiness.
Not harmless at all.

IstayedForTheFeminism · 23/04/2022 12:31

Interesting. Thanks. The hastag thing is worrying though!

I read it as "transpeople really are happy and therefore they aren't the most depressed and marginalised group ever because they really are happy" which I assumed wasn't the intended message!
