Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Environmental group to choose

ServantofthePeople · 18/04/2022 09:19

I would like to re-engage with an environmental group having run a Friends of the Earth group long ago. I don’t want to find myself with people running social justice campaigns re self ID etc.
Any to avoid? Any sensible ones? I’m aware that the Green Party is bonkers and to be avoided. I am hoping FotE is still sensible

The Green Party is worth keeping an eye on. While there is a contingent determined to shoehorn in identity politics there are still good people within it, and at conference most of the motions supporting feminists etc passed. I appreciate they are being sued by - I think three - current and former members, though.

I'd like to hear more about FoE, used to be a member many moons ago.

ServantofthePeople · 18/04/2022 12:09

FoE was always non-aligned to any political party which I think is important.
I’m not looking for feminist - just not anti-woman tra iyswim.

Yes, I think that most of us here would be happy with 'not anti-woman' as a basic start, but that seems to be hard to find, bizarrely.

DomesticatedZombie · 18/04/2022 12:20

This from FoE for IWD:

DomesticatedZombie · 18/04/2022 12:26

www.foei.org/what-we-do/gender-justice-and-dismantling-patriarchy/

There is a bit of waffle about non-binary people and heteronormativity and 'anti-LGBTQ+'. That is the international group, though. Maybe what is needed is just for women to get back into these groups and make them not anti-women. Hm.

ServantofthePeople · 18/04/2022 21:05

Hmm, IWD is not FoE’s job but I guess it’s just noise....

Manchester Green Party have just tweeted "We shall say it again.
Manchester Green Party absolutely, unequivocally supports trans rights and women’s rights. They do not conflict.
Peace and love everyone" along with a little trans flag, green love heart and pulsing trans flag love heart gif that's looks right out of the hypnotism scene in Zoolander.

ServantofthePeople · 18/04/2022 21:51

Oh For fuck’s sake.

War Is Peace, Ignorance is Strength, Transwomen are Women.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 18/04/2022 22:35

Friends of the Earth is captured at the top.

/4) A lack of access to toxic-free sustainable period care and education has consequences for the health of people who menstruate and the Earth.

Not talking about periods means it’s difficult to tackle these issues openly and honestly.

Greenpeace is captured too. They have tweeted about TWAW. And instantly lost my subscription. Stick to the day job guys.

DomesticatedZombie · 18/04/2022 23:04

Ah, ffs.

OhHolyJesus · 18/04/2022 23:06

From Greenpeace in 2020, in response to them misinterpreting 'intersex' and using 'womxn'. My subscription also cancelled. The good news is womxn never really caught on.

"There’s more information on our policy on diversity and inclusion here >> https://www.greenpeace.org.uk/work-for-greenpeace/diversity-and-inclusion//_

And here’s an interesting piece from our International Executive Director >> http://www.ipsnews.net/2020/03/can-no-green-peace-without-gender-equality//_

We know that the success in Greenpeace’s work is deeply interconnected with the success of those working for racial, social, and gender justice and we believe it’s our responsibility to align our climate and environmental work with these movements."

DomesticatedZombie · 18/04/2022 23:14

Hm. Greenpeace always have been sensationalist, though. FoE - I'd expect better.

cariadlet · 18/04/2022 23:18

Don't write off the Green Party.

The leadership are captured but the pro-trans voices, although vocal and influential, don't represent the majority of members who aren't really interested in the issue.

Green Feminists know that sex matters and are leading the fightback.

Local groups vary tremendously. Some are captured but not all. My local meetings are dominated by environmental issues. Sex and gender have only come up a couple of times and that's when I've fed back about the Spring Conference (members seemed rather nonplussed and were keen to move back to our normal topics of conversation!).

GreenGoude · 19/04/2022 00:39

Green Feminists consist of women (and some male allies) inside & outside of the Green Party. If you can bear to join the Green Party (captured as it is at the top) there are lots of us working to change policy & challenge the 'no debate' narrative. We are having some success and numbers are crucial to that, so you would be very welcome!

WarriorN · 19/04/2022 06:59

I'd keep an eye on the Green Party.

Despite the fact that so many are suing them and they might collapse, I know more women fighting this shit in the Green Party than any other party.

I joined my local feminist group and then by chance found most were actually in the greens.

The deep green resistance (who I'm not sure are a particularly good group to follow as I think they're extreme) are actually anti trans crap, as they are soo green, but I know very little else.

WarriorN · 19/04/2022 07:02

Dawn has been staunchly fighting this shit, especially some stuff around the challenor horrificness and stood for Blyth in the last election. She's been treated terribly by the greens and is now suing them. But as more of their bullying comes to light they'll be forced to sort their shit out.

Ohnohedident · 19/04/2022 09:20

Deep Green Restistance.

DomesticatedZombie · 19/04/2022 09:30

DGR are interesting in terms of shifting the Overton Window, imo. But maybe we need a range of groups/organisations - DGR to provoke contemplation, Greenpeace types to draw attention, FoE to inform policy and lobby decision makers. etc

ServantofthePeople · 19/04/2022 09:32

“Stick to the day job guys”

This!
I will gladly work alongside people who say twaw (many of my friends) so long as the topic is not raised.
That’s all I ask of them.
Grrrr

"Deep Green Resistance is a radical feminist organization. Men as a class are waging a war against women. Rape, battering, incest, prostitution, pornography, poverty, and gynocide are both the main weapons in this war and the conditions that create the sex-class women. Gender is not natural, not a choice, and not a feeling: it is the structure of women’s oppression. Attempts to create more “choices” within the sex-caste system only serve to reinforce the brutal realities of male power. As radicals, we intend to dismantle gender and the entire system of patriarchy which it embodies. The freedom of women as a class cannot be separated from the resistance to the dominant culture as a whole."

deepgreenresistance.uk/about-dgr-uk/

I hadn't seen the U.K. one before.

DomesticatedZombie · 19/04/2022 23:03

Oh, thanks, I didn't know they had a UK chapter.

WarriorN · 21/04/2022 15:47

I hadn't twigged that Derrick Jenson, who wrote endgame that the DGR was based on, is the lecturer who plays queer double jeopardy with students, demonstrating how queer theory is a safeguarding nightmare for children and harmful to women.

Interesting...!

I also hadn't realised how many fb groups there are, including one in my local area.
