I had a quick look and couldn't see that this had already been posted. Please delete if it's a duplicate thread.

So they are in court for exposing themselves and acting inappropriately in public, obviously wanting to be seen.

And then from the article- "Thompson was already on the sex offenders’ register before she had come out as trans when she was legally named Andrew McNab.

She has 17 convictions for 22 offences, including sexually assaulting an underage girl in 2011."

I don't understand why the media respects the desired pronouns of these pedophiles.

I think they have to

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 13/04/2022 13:33

Fucking hell. Yet people are trying to get 'rights' for people like them to use woman's spaces. Sure.

God it makes me so angry.

NotTerfNorCis · 13/04/2022 14:16

I've said it before, but the media should report a person's sex first in cases like this. Anything else is just false reporting. This stuff actually harms transwomen because it will lead to all reports of female criminals being assumed to be about males. In fact, things have been drifting that way for a while.

AlisonDonut · 13/04/2022 14:18

They have to report what the police report says i believe.

JaniceBattersby · 13/04/2022 14:27

IPSO guidelines are clear. Journalists have to use preferred pronouns.

We can refer to a defendant’s transgenderism only if it is strictly necessary (which it is, in this case)

Moreover, we have a legal duty to provide an accurate report of court proceedings. To do otherwise would be in contempt of court. If the defendant is referred to as ‘she’ then we us reporters can’t deviate from that.

The reporter has done a thorough job here by explaining the defendant’s past.

I’ve covered similar cases in the past and have managed to avoid pronouns altogether but it’s often very tricky to do so and still make the piece readable.

Neverendingmindfuck · 13/04/2022 14:33

I struggle to read 'she exposed HER penis' tbh.

OvaHere · 13/04/2022 14:35

The mind boggles as to how a wheelie bin might be used as a sex toy. The lid? The wheels? The hinge? Confused

It's about time the IPSO guidelines were challenged. They are clearly ridiculous and a massive insult to reality and the reader's intelligence.

BacklashBacklash · 13/04/2022 14:37

Women, eh? Always getting their cocks out and playing with them in public.

I agree. The guidelines are outrageous. It’s offensive to me as a woman that you get these endless “her penis” stories now. It’s completely taking the piss considering the context of endless male sexual violence against women.

Manekinek0 · 13/04/2022 14:40

@JaniceBattersby thank you. I didn't mean to imply the reporter hadn't done a good job.

Can I ask what would be classed as strictly necessary? Was it the previous convictions in this case or that the transition was part of the defense?

A wheelie bin?
Must be hung like a donkey. That's going to be tricky to hide in a lycra mini.

JaniceBattersby · 13/04/2022 18:07

Our editor interprets it if it’s relevant to the case. So if a person gets done for speeding and having no insurance, happens to be trans but doesn’t mention it in court, it wouldn’t be appropriate to mention it in the published piece.

Basically, the second it’s mentioned in court in mitigation or for any other reason, it’s going in my story. It might not be in the headline but it’ll be in there.

Other editors have different interpretations but honestly, pretty much every journalist I come across these days is strongly gender critical.

JaniceBattersby · 13/04/2022 18:08

Sorry, typo, our editors interprets it as it *must be relevant to the case.

ExMachinaDeus · 13/04/2022 18:25

but honestly, pretty much every journalist I come across these days is strongly gender critical.

That is really heartening to hear! Thanks for doing your job so carefully and diligently in this resp

ExMachinaDeus · 13/04/2022 18:26

Respect!

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 13/04/2022 18:28

I always feel that the whole “her penis” thing is thrown in there more to labour the point it’s ridiculous.

FemaleAndLearning · 13/04/2022 18:43

I had a quick look at the IPSO rules a little while ago I think they were influenced by the organisation Trans Media Watch.

I thought that journalists could not use transgenderism to sensationalise. Do by using her penis surely this is sensationalism? I couldn't see anything in the public guidelines about pronouns.

IPSO certainly does need to be challenged, would this be something Sex Matters would take up?

flyingbuttress43 · 13/04/2022 18:49

Presumably recorded in female crime statistics and if they do get sent to jail will they be put in a woman's prison because feelz?

Looks like Trisha Clifton has a lot of previous. This story is from Jan 21 and there was no photo of "her" back then.

Possibly the same Trisha Clifton. This one fron 2014. There's loads more if you Google. Trisha could practically single-handedly double women's crime stats.

MarshmallowSwede · 14/04/2022 06:38

His penis. Women don’t have penises. This man is a pervert. A sex offender who wears dresses so she can harass and commit sexual offenses even more.

What a time to be alive!
