As most mums know, it’s important to have a few strategies ready for when things get tricky. So — with a nod in solidarity to beleaguered adults across the land having to deal with transactivist drama in their organisations, homes, and friend groups — here are five supernanny-style rules from me.

1 Encourage them to use their words
2 Praise the good
3 Set boundaries
4 Ignore derailing attempts
5 Get them out in the fresh air

Very true. Behave like a tantruming child then expect to be treated like one.

I loved this! It was frustrating to see people accused her of being milktoast in order to get her book published and present a reasonable and moderate voice in the face of battshittery. But having achieved that and is now uncancellable I look forward to many more such articles from Prof Stock. I bloody love her.

I have a lot of respect for Stock, she seems to have an integrity you don’t see so often these days.

I'm looking forward to more of her writing now she has lost her chains of academia.

My rules go something like
Ignore tantrums. Unless they make you laugh.
Say yes, not no. Yes of course Freddie can like pink and play with dolls.
You can play at being a tiger all day long but I won't be feeding you antelope.
