Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Lorna Slater called out in the Telegraph

tabbycatstripy · 10/04/2022 18:29

After making comments that likened GC feminists to racists and anti-semites, the Scottish Gov was asked which particular groups she meant, and whether she had any evidence:

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/04/10/grossly-offensive-scottish-minister-compares-womens-rights-activists/

They didn’t comment.

She also repeated the argument that UK GC groups are funded by right-wing, American, mysterious and unidentifiable people.

embarrassingly

‘Myself...’ She’s also functionally illiterate.

That was a bit harsh. She’s not. She’s just an idiot.

What hate?

Seriously, what hate? There has not been a single trans or NB person murdered in Scotland since devolution and records began.

3 women a week, though...apparently not hate.

What is WRONG with her?

Trampitt · 10/04/2022 20:37

@tabbycatstripy

‘Greens are standing some trans candidates for local election and Slater says she’s “genuinely afraid for their safety”, adding: “These gentle, hardworking women are being portrayed as if they’re inherently dangerous. It couldn’t be further from the truth.”’

I’m sure it’s not. Why are all their trans candidates transwomen, though?

Concerned for their safety from losing their deposit.
Trampitt · 10/04/2022 20:38

This appears to be where devolution and a whiff of proportional representation leads.

Total nutcases calling the shots.

Saltyquiche · 10/04/2022 20:42

That’s female safeguarding our of the window then ..

JayAlfredPrufrock · 10/04/2022 20:47

Myself. Myself.

Fuck off from a cunty English woman.

PS. I’d quite like funding from an American.

Rainbowshit · 10/04/2022 20:47

@Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky

“Gentle hard working women” why do TWAW politicians always talk about TW like they’re some startled anxious woodland creature? They’re always gentle, kind, shy, quiet - obviously so much better at womaning than the boring old cunty type of women who get sweary & angry 🙄
It's just bizarre isn't it the elevation to some sacred being?
gardenhelpneeded · 10/04/2022 20:48

God please no one vote green in the next election. She’s despicable. How dare she.

gardenhelpneeded · 10/04/2022 20:49

Ps I also got that letter. And the cheeky see you next Tuesdays have added me to their mailing list!

Yeah it's been a bit of a disaster. The list lets in people that would never in a million years be elected.

Yep and earning 98 grand a year. Ffs.

That's one of the problems with a coalition/the awful PR system we have.

1.3% of votes in constituency vote.
8% in regional vote.

Yet the Greens are in government.

There was a tweet by one of the Scottish Green candidates standing for election in Aberdeen City. The person is, I believe, a transwoman and they were having a go at the Alba party for having candidates standing for wards in which the Scottish Greens were fielding a trans person candidate. Never mind that each of those wards also had candidates from every other political party.

I'm still not sure what the point of their tweet was. Are they expecting other candidates of political parties to simply stand down because they are up against a transperson? It was certainly how it came across.

DomesticatedZombie · 10/04/2022 23:05

Heather Herbert? Who was, last time I looked, a Labour candidate, no?

Waitwhat23 · 10/04/2022 23:24

You are right- Heather is a Labour Councillo r - my mistake.

Went back to check the tweet and I've been blocked. My first Twitter block!

Alba and ISP are pro-women's rights. It would be a personal attack, literal violence etc for Alba to stand against a transwoman.

That wee laddie Ross Greer (or Gross Rear as he's known in this house) lives round my way. His experience before becoming an MSP? 2 years at Uni. Hmm

DH is DESPERATE for a Green or SNP candidate to knock on our door, he will ask them whether a woman can have a penis, and then tell them he is a woman and accuse them of misgendering him.

ScrollingLeaves · 11/04/2022 00:10

Trans rights and women’s rights are not in conflict, as all humans have the same human rights.

All humans do not have the same human rights in all circumstances due to those very ‘intersections’ she mentions which can cause a collision of rights.

A woman’s human right for privacy and safety when getting undressed for example, cannot be cancelled by a man’s right to get undressed being exercised in the same space.

Rights can be equivalent but not always identical.

I think Heather may have left Labour and is now standing for the greens.
Torunette · 11/04/2022 10:04

"Trans rights and women’s rights are not in conflict, as all humans have the same human rights. The human rights of minority groups should not be open to debate and interpretation, they should be accepted."

I've started to see this line of argument "all humans have the same human rights" with other government supporters of gender self-id.

It's as though there is an argument factory pumping them out.

Dougalskeeper · 11/04/2022 10:48

To be honest I wouldn't vote for a transwoman, why would I waste my vote on someone with an altered perception of reality.

Trampitt · 11/04/2022 10:51

"Myself support the rights of trans!"
ScrollingLeaves · 11/04/2022 11:00

Fundamental human rights have only one class which is the Human Class.

But the Equalities Act explains the different classes of people whose rights need protection. No one class is identical to the other. Therefore the rights cannot be expressed identically to each other in all cases. This are cases where one class’s rights might cancel another’s, or where one class has special needs of its own.

The right to compete in sports does not mean a man can compete in a woman’s sport if to do so would pitch the greater strength of a man against the lesser one of a woman. Etc

A disabled person’s parking space should not be used by someone able bodied who otherwise has a right to a parking space.

A gay person’s right to be attracted to someone of the same sex, cannot be cancelled by a gender-reassigned person’s right to identify by their chosen gender rather than their sex.
