Trish Goddard - single sex spaces

Instagram link below to a reel she posted today with accompanying long comment.

I like Trish Goddard. But I don’t understand how she can be so ignorant to the issues of single sex spaces. I know she is a big fan of some high profile transwomen instagrammers and I think she just can’t see beyond the fact that, as none of these people are a threat to her, then we’re all being ‘hysterical’ for absolutely no reasons other than to be hateful.

I know Trish has had more than their fair share of vile misogynistic, racist abuse. I hope she is open to hearing from women who might like to put their own experiences across to her. Unfortunately her comments are closed - perhaps because she has had some vile abuse. I hope that putting across another viewpoint on this hasn’t automatically been interpreted as ‘bigoted’.

But I’m sad that she just can’t begin to feel any empathy with women in the way she feels empathy for the transwomen she knows. Isn’t she a journalist? I personally don’t have a problem with the lovely, large self-contained unisex toilet that’s she’s filming in. But ‘single-sex’ spaces go way beyond this and surely she knows this?! And self-ID means that no one has to go through a ‘long, agonising process’ to become transgender. Surely she knows this too? Or maybe she doesn’t…

Ah, she can fuck off.

Linguini · 10/04/2022 13:52

Well, she currently lives in a "gated community" in Connecticut... Where the infamous transgirls were beating females in their own sports and gaining scholarships on that basis until quite recently...

I think a certain level of sympathy is needed fir people living in America, because the narrative there hasn't caught up with reality.
There is still a lot to work through for them. Especially under Biden.

She's in a unisex toilet not a mixed sex one. What is her point?

OldCrone · 10/04/2022 13:57

She says: I have had more (waaay more) experiences of feeling unsafe around Men than any transgender folx.

Has she explained what the difference is between men and male 'transgender folx'? Jamie Wallis is now one of those 'transgender folx', but he still looks just like the man he always was.

Do men undergo some magical transformation into harmless creatures (no matter what they have done in the past) the moment they declare that they are 'trans'?

And self-ID means that no one has to go through a ‘long, agonising process’ to become transgender. Surely she knows this too? Or maybe she doesn’t…

Supporters of self-ID often talk about the long process that people have to go through in order to 'be trans', as a way of saying nobody would do that just to gain access to female only spaces. They can't see the contradiction between saying that it's the gatekeeping stopping the predators while supporting removing all gatekeeping. And people like her don't seem to understand that all anyone has to do to 'be trans' is to say they are (like Jamie Wallis).

Unisex means mixed sex - it doesn’t sound like it means the same but a unisex hairdresser, back in the day, meant you cut the hair of both sexes.

Unisex in the context of toilet provision means one at a time in the room with a toilet, basin, and san pro bin.

Mixed sex is a large room with more than one cubicle, basins in a row separate to cubicles and where both sexes are allowed at the same time.

Think of unisex like a unicycle. Just one wheel!
Mixed sex as many wheels as you can shoehorn in.

OhLordyWhatNow · 10/04/2022 14:10

And unisex in context of hairdressers means they are trained to deal with the styling/ cutting requirements of both sexes not that they have two or more customers on the go at once.

I don’t particularly want to hear from anyone in this debate who is willing to reduce the issues to toilets.

I think people living in gated communities probably should be checking their privilege on the matter, tbh.

You hold journalism in too high regard. All journalists worth their salt stumble upon the same thing, and end up dead. Trisha is pandering to her fans.
