Saw this on the news wires. Thought it was more important than some of the topics that are usually posted here.

STARR COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A woman has been charged with murder after authorities say she performed a “self-induced abortion.”

B) ‘Here’ is the place MNHQ established to lock away our dreadful conversations about sex and gender. It’s not where we are meant to discuss other topics. There is Feminism Chat for that.

Exactly, this subsection of Feminism was only created as a naughty corner to shunt us off to, as there were complaints that too many women on the Feminist section of a women's website, were talking about a specific issue very pertinent to women Angry. So we were given detention.

And now OP want to scold us again for not focusing on a 'more important topic'.

MindPalace · 09/04/2022 09:33

Hi OP, I’ve added your story link to my own thread in Chat about abortion (which someone has helpfully linked to above). I hope that’s ok, and thank you.

OnlyTheTitosaurusOfTheIceberg · 09/04/2022 09:39

Instead of hectoring the women who post here for not following your personal priority list, OP, why not appeal to MNHQ to bring the two FWR boards together again, since our oppression is based on our biology, including our reproductive role, and that isn’t something that can be identified out of no matter how much some people may want to? So every discrimination against a woman occurs in some way because of our sex, or the gender roles ascribed to our sex, and therefore there is no logical reason for these boards to be split the way they are.

ScreamingMeMe · 09/04/2022 09:44

We do actually have a thread here on the situation in the US.

A woman being charged with murder is so, so messed up Sad

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 09/04/2022 09:49

@landOFconfusion there are many topics that affect women, in different ways. All of which are important. It's not for you to decide the ones you believe aren't of importantance in this forum.

Lynnthesearesexnotgenderpeople · 09/04/2022 09:52

TRAs are going in heavy on abortion at the moment as a way of gaslighting women into worrying they are on 'the wrong side'. This OP stinks of that. We must remember that there is no plight that TRAs won't appropriate, whether it be trans sex workers in South America or women whose reproductive rights are being removed in the US.

Wednesdayweekend · 09/04/2022 09:56

Also on social media lots of people saying 'gender criticals' are anti-abortion.

The Republicans in the US states who are passing the pro-life bills are also doing a lot of excellent work for parents of "trans" children.

Straight out of the Dentons playbook.

It’s not always easy to find the right place on mums net for the topic you want though. I am still learning my way round after a month. I think your all being abit hard on the OP . Why do women always have to attack each other ☹️

As you have only been here a month it is understandable that you are not familiar with the history of the feminist section and the sort of things women on here have had to put up with. After a few more months or years it all becomes much clearer.

@Lonleygal The OP was clear she chose this board deliberately to make a point. This wasn't a case of 'not sure where to post'. Challenging the OP on that is not attacking him/her. Nor are women always attack ing each other Hmm Holding and expressing different opinions does not equal an "attack"

@Lonleygal Perhaps read what Lynnthesearesexnotgenderpeople wrote to get an idea of why parts of this discussion have gone the way it has.

Personal attacks aren't allowed on Mumsnet. If you read a personal attack, then report it for deletion.

Can I ask which is the correct place to post a thread about abortion ?

DealWithTheDevilAtTheCrossroad · 09/04/2022 11:04

@Lonleygal

FFS.
LosingTheWill2022 · 09/04/2022 11:05

And I do apologise if it feels like my response is an attack. It's not my intention. I was just explaining that MN is often direct and as @endofthelinefinally says there's a history to events

ScreamingMeMe · 09/04/2022 11:08

@Lonleygal

Can I ask which is the correct place to post a thread about abortion ?
It wasn't the thread's location that got people's backs up. Like I said above, we already had such a thread here.
JellySaurus · 09/04/2022 12:57

@Lonleygal

Can I ask which is the correct place to post a thread about abortion ?
Wherever you consider it relevant. It's not the location posters are objecting to, but the attempt to dictate what we should talk about or prioritise.
Lonleygal · 09/04/2022 14:38

@endofthelinefinally
Yes I agree I’m only just learning about all of this

Ahhh right Thankyou I’ve posted a couple of threads about abortion but I think they were in the right place hopefully !

nepeta · 09/04/2022 15:19

News like this one are not something that is only happening now in certain US states. They have been happening for several decades, and feminists have fought to free the accused women (in all the cases I know of successfully).

The erasure of the names for people who are biologically female is, however, a new thing. Male people cannot be accused of murder for experiencing miscarriage, and it will become extremely confusing if this is now how we discuss the question (from the linked article):

This is a developing story and we don’t yet know all the details surrounding this tragic event, what we do know is that criminalizing pregnant people’s choices or pregnancy outcomes, which the state of Texas has done, takes away people’s autonomy over their own bodies, and leaves them with no safe options when they choose not to become a parent,” Gonzalez explained.

The word 'parent' includes the impregnating people (we used to call them men), and safe options for that group are quite different from the safe options to the 'people who can become pregnant' (which used to be women and girls).

Mumsnet HQ will decide if its the right board and if not they'll move it.

Just don't post a thread about abortion on the golf board and then harangue board users for only talking about golf because you think golf is boring and meaningless, and you'll be fine.

ClaraMumsnet · 09/04/2022 21:35

Hello, we think this is okay where it is, but we'd ask not to let the thread become a bunfight, please.
