It is odd. Of course there are loads of wonderful transgender individuals! That is not the problem here, and neither is nobody denying that transgender people often face harassment and even violence (though do not have, overall, higher rates of being murdered in the UK or the US). Nobody on the gender critical side I have witnessed has ever wanted to deny transgender people the same rights everybody else has, including the right not to be discriminated in employment or education.
Those are not the problems, and it's wrong to argue that they are. The real problem is that the the new trans rights demands include demands which have (for a short historical time period only) belonged to the rights of biological women, and that the new trans rights demands include the 'right' to redefine all language applying to this matter and the erasure of the biological sex as a politically meaningful group. Also, the new gender identities ('cis' women) are simply forced on the rest of us, and we are no longer allowed to be women because of bodies are female. Indeed, female bodies are supposed to be gender-neutral ones.
The Guardian refuses to acknowledge the clash of the trans rights demands with the rights biological women (who haven't tried to identify out of their oppression by calling themselves nonbinary.)
