Guidance on recording sex of victims and suspects by police

FOIA response confirms that, in respect to sex and gender, @ukhomeoffice will now ask police forces to record the sex (of both victims and suspects) based on what was recorded on an individual’s birth certificate or their gender recognition certificate. @NoXYinXXprisons t.co/XESBgISwkr

What will all those Stonewall captured police forces do??? They'll be in trouble for recording truth and facts Hmm

Looks like another brick in this toxic wall is being removed.

tabbycatstripy · 06/04/2022 19:49

Really good news.

Stand by for a repeat of the NHS and senior figures proudly announcing that they have no intention of heeding the Home Office.

Obviously good that actual sex is being recorded but perhaps I am missing something here, if the sex as recorded ad is documented on a GRC does that mean a rape will still be recorded as being perpetrated by a woman (if that women is in possession of a GRC)? How is that any different to the current situation?

ControversialOpening · 06/04/2022 19:56

Does this mean news organisations will report truth, or will they still pretend that men are women?

News organisations will still be governed by the provisions of IPSO.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 06/04/2022 20:00

Not great when you consider how easy they want to make it to get a GRC.

Just paperwork innit. Nothing to see here...

AgnesNaismith · 06/04/2022 20:00

Hold on - if a transwoman has a GRC but yet still has a penis this is still a problem isn’t it?

OhHolyJesus · 06/04/2022 20:03

based on what was recorded on an individual’s birth certificate or their gender recognition certificate.

An and instead of an or would be good.

Birth certificate - based on fact, held on record, verifiable

GRC - made up lies based on feeling, piece of paper issued by panel who never meets applicant

Record the sex on both and you'll know which prisoners are trans identified and what sex they are.

Record one or the other and your data is shot.

WearyLady · 06/04/2022 20:15

If you read the letter to Terry it says that both gender identity and sex should be recorded if they are different.

ChopinBoard · 06/04/2022 20:23

We've seen various NHS workers say that they will ignore EHRC guidance. Will police do the same?

This is a problem - captured orgs like the BBC, police, civil service ignoring the government.

They have to start enforcing things and making sure people lose their jobs if they ignore the law.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 06/04/2022 20:46

What? People losing their jobs for breaking the law, not for saying they believe in biology? What madness is this?

Imnobody4 · 06/04/2022 21:05

Another tweet from Terry points out something that hadn't occured to me!

It should be possible, if records are kept sensibly, to record natal sex because it’s the opposite of legal sex on a GRC! Police forces have a legitimate need to do this because patterns of offending and pathways into crime vary by natal sex. Anonymised stats, so not ‘intrusive’.

I'm not so sure this will work if they do this. The police is like the military as it's rank/hierarchy-driven. They take orders. It's not outside the realms of possibility that a force will have some rebels but I would think they'd be told off sharpish if they publicly went against the Home Office or Home Secretary.

Even so, it's one to write to PCCs and MPs about. As in: how is your force responding and what's the latest data?

Linguini · 06/04/2022 22:33

There's the issue that it's one thing how the police record crime stats (great progress here) but it's another thing how the press report individual crimes....

I can't wait to see the back of "her penis" (not literally obvs...) Etc, But we'll have to wait on that won't we.

OatSprout · 07/04/2022 09:57

This is a step in the right direction. Pulling back the Stonewall overreach.

I thought this too.
