Dan Hodges Article MoS: 'Starmer is doomed..."

This is a sharply written piece laying it out clear and crisp for Starmer.

www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-10679749/DAN-HODGES-Keir-Starmer-doomed-listens-woke-advisers-legions-women-voters.html

The opening of this interview is priceless:

"Last week Keir Starmer was asked a simple question. 'Can a woman have a penis?' interviewer Nick Ferrari enquired on LBC radio. This is what followed
Starmer: 'Uh, Nick, I'm not… uh… I… I don't think we can conduct this debate with… you know…'
Ferrari: '… sorry, have I offended you?'
Starmer: 'No, no, no, it's just… no, no, I just…'
Ferrari: '... a woman can have a penis?'
Starmer: 'I don't think that… um… discussing this issue in this way helps anyone in the long run.'

Finally, Starmer retreated to the safety of the usual boilerplate: discussions on legal reform, a vague commitment to the protection of women, and an even vaguer condemnation of 'intolerance' by people unnamed. But by then the damage was done."

I hate DH because I am one of the progressive women he mentions. But that is a clear and insightful piece.

Weird acronym clash.

PandorasMailbox · 03/04/2022 00:45

Did you see that cringey piece he did for Pink News?

It looked more like a hostage situation than a politician advocating for trans rights.

Haha I had to think twice there!

I mean the Daily Mail will always come up with articles for various reasons why Labour are doomed. It's their MO.

Unfortunately on this, coupled with the latest campaign "...You won't get my X" which is gaining traction, sadly labour WILL be doomed if it's only the Tories who have the balls to say W=AHF.

I would respect Starmer if he just said he disagreed with me. This cat and mouse thing makes him look scared of the truth.

bellinisurge · 03/04/2022 10:11

Exactly @tabbycatstripy . The pathetic attempts to "appeal to both sides" [like there are two "sides"!!!] just makes him look weak. I genuinely thought he could save Labour after all this time. Labour voter since 1987 here (apart from Corbyn era when I spoiled my ballot).
Nope, don't care if it's only the POS Mail talking about this, I won't vote Labour if it doesn't respect my sex.

borntobequiet · 03/04/2022 10:58

As the pandemic raged, Sir Keir demanded that Boris follow the science slavishly. Yet when it comes to the debate about trans rights, we are all suddenly told we are morally obliged to cast the science aside, and become biological flat-earthers.

This.

I know. Just having a chat with my DM - both lifelong haters of the Tories, and I said I haven't a clue who to vote for at the next GE, will prob spoil my ballot as I'm furious with Labour on this. She told me to 'get over my fury with Labour as we don't want the Tories in'. I can't get over it. That's not to say I'll vote Tory even though they are the only party to who even slightly believes that W=AHF (I don't think they actually care about women on this matter, they just cannily know that Labour are dooming themselves with women), but I can't get past Labour's stance on this, and their f'ing idiocy of an own goal - aside from being wrong, it's idiotic to alienate half the electorate for the sake of the small beardy male woke minority. So I'm left with - who on Earth to vote for? No one.
tabbycatstripy · 03/04/2022 11:16

I don’t think the Tories don’t care about women. They’re not particularly feminist either but they (mostly) seem to treat women the same as they do other citizens.

My family are very much of this mind. And I'm very much of yours.

I'm done holding my nose and voting for The Goodies because right side of history etc etc etc.

It's not my job to vote for them - it's their fucking job to persuade me to. Right now they haven't, so I won't.

Wow I’m going to steal that.

Good article. I don’t agree with Hodges on a lot of things but he’s never hidden his feelings on this subject, is fond of re tweeting JKR etc. The points he makes in the article are excellent, when he says about female spaces, ‘that if biological men can utilise them, then they're no longer safe spaces at all’ - exactly, how can people not see this! and I shall be nicking that flat earther point.

ChopinBoard · 03/04/2022 17:43

"What Starmer needs to explain – clearly and unequivocally – is who he believes should actually have access to these secure enclaves [women only spaces]. And recognise that if biological men can utilise them, then they're no longer safe spaces at all."
