My first experience of "unisex" loos....

Went to the local city farm, which I've visited many times before the lockdown, with my DH and others. I decided I needed to "go" and so did DH, but we found that the men's had been closed and the ladies had been made gender neutral. DH and I came to the door and he said "Do you want to go first?" even though we could see there were cubicles. He was clearly uncomfortable going into a mixed sex facility!
In some ways I can see it's practical as sometimes men need to take kids to the loo, but, I don't know, surely there's another solution?

I live outside the UK. It’s quite common here to have new mixed sex toilets in addition to the old single sex facilities. I’ve also been in a number of places where new toilet provision hasn’t been provided, but the men’s is now mixed sex and the women’s is still women’s.

I have sometimes used the mixed sex facilities, but it certainly feels uncomfortable to exit the cubicle and find a man at the sinks.

This again

There’s mixed sex loos at a local soft play. Fine tbh. All the cubicles are floor to ceiling, and the middle area is massive with two seperate sink units. It’s semi open to the play area so there’s no hidden corners.

At least this might shame people into washing their hands if they think everyone is watching!

Well yeah the solution is family rooms like lots of venues manage.

I'm not really sure why the title is "my first experience..." when the OP is all about your husband.

How did you feel?

Yes there is another solution. A third space for gender neutral or turn the men's into the gender neutral space. And leave women's space as it is.
