They have their youth strategy so wrong and it’s hurting children. I can’t help my feelings of disgust about the Biden administration.

WinterTrees · 01/04/2022 09:09

"we are committed to advancing transgender equality in the classroom, on the playing field...'

How are you defining 'equality' there Mr President?

Popuptent · 01/04/2022 09:12

Tweet from Abigail Shrier:

'The Biden Administration has now determined that "gender affirming care" - including puberty blockers, hormones and surgeries - is a right of trans youth and "appropriate" and "necessary" for their health.

The Biden Justice Department will come after states that disagree.

The Administration now owns this absurd position at precisely the moment that many European countries (France, UK, Sweden and Finland) are backing away from these interventions, having examined a decade of evidence that failed to establish the purported benefits.'

And from Bev Jackson:

'This dangerous decision is based on disinformation. The main victims are teenage girls, especially lesbians. This is one of the worst attacks on gay and lesbian rights we’ve seen in recent years. Masquerading as “progressive” and “health care”. No one is born in “the wrong body”.'

Biden is in cahoots with pharma $, that’s why he’s pushing this ideology into schools and onto children. Lots of Americans are deeply homophobic, they would rather a straight daughter than a gay son. It’s scary that they want medical intervention for gender non confirming children. After the opioid scandal they have seemingly learnt nothing-it’s awful.

PronounssheRa · 01/04/2022 09:15

I worry that this is going to be one of the issues that paves the way for a return of trump.

The midterms are going to be interesting

sashagabadon · 01/04/2022 09:19

Trump 2024 looking more and more likely

tabbycatstripy · 01/04/2022 09:20

He’s going to get wiped. Far more divisive than how he presented himself.

Helleofabore · 01/04/2022 09:46

What else could be expected with one of the chief policy makers for health having a particular vested interest.

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 01/04/2022 09:48

His dementia has really set in, interesting how its expressing itself in extreme misogyny.

ScreamingMeMe · 01/04/2022 09:56

Oh hell. Trump 2024 here we come Sad

Monitaurus · 01/04/2022 09:58

We already know who is visible and who is not.

Does it say anything about the current US practice of putting males in women's prisons?

A man who was in prison for raping a 12-year-old girl was put in a locked cell with a woman who he then sexually assaulted.

There should be more visibility around the privileges available to males who identify as transgender when they are in prison.

Well, he knows which sex to focus on, at least:

"advance gender equity and equality across the whole of the government, including by addressing barriers faced by LGBTQ+ people, in particular transgender women and girls, across our country."

BootsAndRoots · 01/04/2022 11:13

I assume that Biden was selected by the Democrats as he's weak and that the party is just pushing all this identity politics stuff through. He doesn't have a clue what they're demanding, he just reads the auto-cue.

GrinitchSpinach · 01/04/2022 11:32

I’m still clinging to a hope that Trump’s health won’t permit him to run again. I don’t wish him ill, just hoping he decides it’s all too much to campaign etc.

I think we’ll see an electoral bloodbath much sooner, though: in November of this year the entire US House of Representatives and 1/3 of the Senate is on the ballot.

I don’t think I the only Democrat who feels so alienated by our party’s priorities right now.

To be fair, let the Americans do what they want. Let them show the world what they are.

We need our politicians and institutions to stand firmly against American propaganda and imperialism, resist the forcing of American culture on the rest of us.

We don't need this woke culture war. Never have done and never will.

The UK has it's own culture and values, we need to celebrate these and distance ourselves from toxic American politics.

Hear, hear.

I struggle to imagine Trump making a comeback to be honest. A lot of his 2016 votes were borrowed from disaffected floating voters and votes specifically against HRC. Apart from a core fan base I feel like he is widely discredited now following his less than graceful exit from the White House.

It seems far from clear how 2024 might play out because a lot of factors are still up in the air. Will Biden decide to run a 2nd term or will Harris run in his place? No matter how people feel about Biden we've seen what an upward struggle women candidates have and I would say Harris is less popular than Clinton.

Then there's the question of the Republican primaries. Other than Trump who has hinted at it I think it's too early for anyone else to have thrown their hat in the ring. Ron DeSantis seems one to watch, he may not want to give up the Florida Governorship but should he run I think he's someone the Trumpers and the more moderate arm of the party might come together on.

I'm not American though so take all that with the caveat of a British lens.

tabbycatstripy · 01/04/2022 12:47

I think DeSantis might run.

Tiphaine · 01/04/2022 13:08

Yes Linguini, I agree. This seems to be an America problem and it's looking like the rest of the world has started to notice: twitter.com/bernard_lane/status/1509725507243323411?s=21

I feel increasingly sorry for American women, though. The misogyny of their politics seems extreme.

This very clearly sums up my feelings.

Agree @GrinitchSpinach and I'm terrified of a Trump 2.0. If Trump doesn't run, his son or daughter will. Goodbye democracy. The Democrats need to look at the polling and jettison this gender insanity and focus on issues that affect the majority like the economy and healthcare.
