Annoyed that survey asks for gender not sex

This Oxford University survey on sleep looked interesting

ecsm.fra1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8fh17DLjMTf3CJg

But it asks for gender not sex. As it is the biological reality of menopause keeping me awake night after night I am annoyed.

@Stopsnowing

If people think the question on menopause captures the issue sufficiently then why even ask for gender or sex?
Because it gives useful data - there may be variations by gender, by sex assigned at birth and transgender and non-transgender groups might differ.

A transwoman is biologically male.
A transman is biologically female.

Sleep science has identified differences between the sexes, and these differences don’t give a flying fig what anyone identifies as.

Biology, not ideology.

I blame my parents. Back in the days when surveys and questionnaires were filled in by hand, they and their peers thought it was hilarious to write YES PLEASE instead of M or F when asked about "sex". So now we get "gender" instead. Which didn't matter much until gender ideology became fashionable.

I put prefer not to say, if theres a box I write female sex not gender, try emailing them.

I never tick gender boxes, I dont believe in gender theory its irrelevant, I am female sex, I present how I want and do what I like and I couldnt care less if people think its lady like or not.

Sex is not "assigned at birth", it is defined at the moment of conception via the X or Y male sperm meeting the female ova and it is possible to test for it in the womb 9/10 weeks later and many pregnant women do, to rule out certain kinds of chromosomal abnormalities.

The use of this phrase to describe everyone's biological sex, appropriated from people with disorders of sex development, means that the majority of the population isn't going to take anything people that use it say seriously, the same way as pretending that sperm can come from women or ova from men, but if that's ok, go for it.

Agree, @Ereshkigalangcleg - it signposts those who put an confused and incorrect ideology above science and reality.

It doesn’t strike me that DadJoke is confused about the terminology - he’s asserting, against all evidence, that TW are actually women.

I assume he’s one of the those that channel flat earthers truly believe that men magically change into the opposite sex. Presumably by clicking their heels and saying “Stonewall” three times.
