Just this week...

  • FINA state swimming policies will be reviewed so male athletes aren’t competing with female athletes (needs detail)
  • Emily Bridges ruled out of eligibility for cycling in female omnium event
  • Streeting, McDonagh and Reeves acknowledge important of biology
  • Javid gives interview to Unherd, states sports should be run along lines of biological sex
  • Webberley tribunal reveals serious malpractice issues, expert witness confirms gender distressed children do not commit suicide at high rates and usually desist
  • female athletes come out in support of female sports for biological females
  • Kemi Badenoch commits to discussion of British Cycling policy with DMCS

Am I missing stuff?

(Owen Jones says gender critical “rage” is because we know we’re going to lose.)

Great list... ignoring Owen Jones ...

IcakethereforeIam · 31/03/2022 14:56

I don't have a twitter account because I'd probably send something very rude, and totally counter productive to OJ. Brilliant round up, thank you.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 31/03/2022 15:15

Because I'm a pessimist and have seen so many false dawns of rationality over the years and have lost count of the number of times MNers have claimed that we've reached a turning point…

  • FINA state swimming policies will be reviewed so male athletes aren’t competing with female athletes (needs detail)
Needs detail and commitment from everybody involved because several organisations are notorious for their anti-woman history and level of corruption.
  • Emily Bridges ruled out of eligibility for cycling in female omnium event
For the upcoming event. BC is telling people that Bridges has enough time and upcoming events to quality for the next Olympic squad.
  • Streeting, McDonagh and Reeves acknowledge important of biology
Let's see if they hold the line on this and firm up their positions.
  • Javid gives interview to Unherd, states sports should be run along lines of biological sex
Let's see if there is horizontal transfer of this attitude to the NHS, social care agencies etc.., somewhere where Javid has actual power.
  • Webberley tribunal reveals serious malpractice issues, expert witness confirms gender distressed children do not commit suicide at high rates and usually desist
Let's see if this stops media organisations, MPs and NGO leaders continuing to spread misinformation and disinformation on this topic in their culture of impunity.
  • female athletes come out in support of female sports for biological females
I'm impressed by this, the longer these tweets stay up and the more that they recommend Ross Tucker and other reliable sources of evidence-based knowledge.
  • Kemi Badenoch commits to discussion of British Cycling policy with DMCS
I will be interested in the outcome of this. Let's recall that Dr Michael Brady informed stakeholders that although women had to be listened to as part of the NHS review process, there was “no plan to reduce existing rights of trans people.”

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4506395-Fears-over-flawed-NHS-single-sex-wards-review-carried-out-by-trans-advocate

I can't tell you how thrilled I would be to be completely wrong and unnecessarily cynical about these signs of change or progress.

tabbycatstripy · 31/03/2022 15:20

Cynicism wholly justified. But these are still positive developments.

Kemi Badenoch also said she supported the creation of a Margaret Thatcher day this week, so she's not totally off the hook here! However she also answered questions in the HoP: twitter.com/LabWomenDec/status/1509130676271996934?s=20&t=Nk9jrU_qOY4hs8wd--bkNw

tabbycatstripy · 31/03/2022 15:33

What would they do on Margaret Thatcher day? Get a class of primary school kids in and take their milk off them?

OP posts:
tabbycatstripy · 31/03/2022 15:45

Starting to wonder if Javid hasn’t squirmed his way out of publishing the Unherd interview, though. Was meant to be out today. No sign...

OP posts:
Babdoc · 31/03/2022 15:55

Tabby, it was Edward Short, the previous education sec, who scrapped school milk for secondary pupils. Thatcher was merely in post when it was implemented, and she tried to argue against the policy. Then Shirley Williams was responsible for stopping it for primary school pupils. So you are really attacking the wrong person here.
Thatcher was very annoyed at being labelled a milk snatcher, and successfully blocked Clarke’s later attempt to stop milk for pre school nurseries.

tabbycatstripy · 31/03/2022 15:56

It’s a joke. I’m not attacking Thatcher (and I think she’d have been able to handle it).

More good news... plans to criminalise those who seek to explore the reasons for gender dysphoria have been shelved.

FeckTheMagicDragon · 31/03/2022 19:11

I got told ‘eat shit and die, terf ’ this week. It had zero impact. Positive signs are there, but until we get men out of our spaces the fight will go on.

tabbycatstripy · 31/03/2022 19:15

Can’t keep up with the developments!

I think that the constant grilling of MP's on this is really turning the screw. The illogicality of some of the rhetoric is laid bare.
The issue of transwomen in sport is not going away. Every Emily or Lia is actually doing the heavy lifting to show why it's just not fair.

I like to know when The Youtuber Owen Jones is sad. It reassures me I'm on the right side of history.

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 31/03/2022 20:25

Hurrah! I think that means you can award yourself a terflon badge, (in the form of a frying pan holding a large gamete.)

Cuck00soup · 31/03/2022 20:37

Sally Gunnel saying it like is and not only was she not told to die in a grease fire but some people actually agreed with her.

Beamur · 31/03/2022 20:48

Sally Gunnel was someone I grew up watching competing on TV and I still remember being absolutely glued to the set hoping she would win. So glad that she's still so brave and fierce.

Odense · 31/03/2022 21:27

Im going to have to sit on my hands not to make a ‘heavy lifting‘ joke about the third member of that trio….

Taswama · 31/03/2022 21:34

Who are FINA?

Thanks for the sex matters link Chateau . The Humanists have been decrying the pause of that bill, but I thought it wasn't as simple as it seemed.

Beamur · 31/03/2022 21:54

Odense
I missed a trick there! 😄
My DH has seen the reporting around EB and commented how can they want to do that? Surely it's a hollow victory?

Datun · 31/03/2022 22:41

Yes. It would appear that a lot of the general public didn't give a shit about women in prison or rape refuges, or men in our toilets and changing rooms, but sport, that's another matter entirely...

And there were many women on here who called it out. They said sport would be the killer.

And we have absolutely reached a turning point, there's no doubt about it. A few years ago you would never have got broadcasters, journalists, peers etc, asking politicians if women can have penises.

Plus people like Harrop, Michael Webberley, Helen Webberley, the Tavistock, etc are coming in for mass criticism and worse. Including Stonewall.

It's been a long time coming and it's achingly slow, but it's happening.

(Owen Jones says gender critical “rage” is because we know we’re going to lose.)

Sometimes I think Owen Jones is just spouting bollocks to remain relevant, and other times, I think he genuinely thinks that. Because, from what I can gather, he has blocked so many people, he could easily be living in a bubble of false affirmation.
