I'm convinced that Streeting's unequivocal statement about men having penises, women having vaginas is entirely based on pragmatism. He doesn't care about women and was previously part of the Terfs out faction.

He has realised, however, that a) every other politician to answer JHB's question has looked immensely foolish and b) the general public is not quite as on board with the loony wing of the trans agenda as he might have hoped.

And that's a good thing. I doubt he's sincere, but he has seen which way the wind is blowing.

That’s my take on Wes’s change of heart too. You can almost smell the political ambition emanating from his recent statements.

It's possible that like a lot of TWAW supporters, he really believed all the "born in the wrong body" stuff and that they were really people who were analogous to intersex people. I know that seems clearly unsupported to most of us here, but there are a lot of people who really think that is where the science stands.

The penny might have have dropped for him that it's not really quite like that.

The issue is there cannot be any 'compromise' that doesn't remove women's rights or boundaries. There is no debate if women are silenced by threats.

No man should be given a special certificate to pretend he is a woman. Self ID is bullshit and making it as easy as getting a bus pass to change legal sex is ridiculous.

How the fuck can you protect women and girls if you can't exclude men from our sex class.

The problem is that TRA's have been given everything they have demanded, no compromise. Self entitled aggressive men, given the green light to attack and punish women who dare to say no with impunity.

They want the law changed so we must all pretend they are women and that it will be illegal to state otherwise or challenge any part of their behaviours.

All these politicians can fuck off. It's just lip service and distraction. Getting the women to calm down whilst doing deals to fuck us over behind closed doors.

The homage a lot of men pay to their own dicks. They bombard women with unwanted photos of them/texts about them, they graffiti them all over the place, they go on pornhub and search for Ukrainian women being raped (or other female victims who've been in the news recently) so they can wank to it, they commit sexual crimes with their dicks to the extent that 1 in 5 women in England and Wales have been raped.And who can forget that thread where women said how old they were when first flashed at by an adult man?

I think the ' does a woman have a penis' question is proving the public undoing of one politician after another at the moment. They don't want to say 'no' but the general public are hearing the squirming and non- answering and probably wondering why. Because for the majority of people this is not a complicated question.

I wonder if we're going to see a more 'divide and conquer' approach? A few key players like Streeting talking about biology, qualifying it with support for transpeople, Rosie Duffield potentially being brought cautiously back in to the very edge of the labour fold, while the rest of the party (Rayner, Nandy and co) hold the TWAW hardline. The aim being to offer enough crumbs for left wing women who despise the tories to feel able to vote Labour again?

This might be the aim. But for me at least it won't work. I now realise women have been bottom of the pile for so long that we require much more than just acknowledgement that we exist and need single sex spaces, I think it should be written into law now that those few single sex spaces are sacrosanct. I also think that more toilets are needed anyway, I actually think a third space is a good idea and necessary for various people, not solely trans people. If a party clings to twaw even if only a few of the MPs then I will reserve my vote for whichever party states in the manifesto twatw and women ahf among other issues of course.

If the divide and conquer theory proves to be true, it'll be like trying to ride two horses at the same time.

Labour have shown us who they are and who they represent. It's going to take a lot more than basic KS1 biology to give me any hope that they'll actively protect women's rights and uphold safeguarding procedures.

As for Little Orange Juice guy, he’s not coming across as rational at all these days.

But how do we respect men who are transitioning? By letting them use women’s spaces? Unless he makes it clear that women’s rights remain for females with biological vaginas, then we’re no further on.

I suppose it does at least suggest that there’s a dim realisation that this is a big issue for women.

We are further on (at least with him). He recognises that it is a legitimate debate. He is telling the truth about biology. I’m happy to debate people who say TW should be able to use female spaces:

• which TW?
• what exactly is a TW?
• which spaces?

The reason he’s so hated by the activists is that he gives the game away. He admits you can distinguish between transwomen and women, and he admits there may be rights conflicts.

His constituency is Ilford North, which has swung between Labour - Tory - Labour etc over the years since it was created.

It's probably not best suited to embracing the gender woo. It's more 'pint of lager and a fruit based drink for the lady' territory.

He has to sell something credible to his constituents at the next election; and 'women have penises' isn't it.

It doesn't matter what form of words MPs like him (who have been full on TWAW) decide is less of a vote loser/makes them look less deranged and out of touch with reality; if the Labour Party/LibDem/SNP/Green keep their intention to allow full self-id in Law. Please do not let them off the hook too easily. We know where they really stand. The Conservatives have not intimidated/expelled anyone for not believing in Gender Identity Ideology. They need to continue rolling the overreach back and maybe even repealing GRA.
