Sounds like there are now better measures in place to protect women and children, thank goodness.

'Nadia, meanwhile, told me of her dangerous journey out of Ukraine from Kharkiv. Now in Poland, she was so relieved, she said, to have a female driver. '

That's dreadful Zombie. It's disaster on top of disaster with so many women and children being vulnerable to male predators.
Thank heavens so many women are prepared to intervene to keep them safe.

DomesticatedZombie · 27/03/2022 20:26

Yes, absolutely.

SadAngry One of the usual suspects (marg) was on here a few days ago with the audacity to post in support of those offering to help women set themselves for sex work.

JFC. Aware of the fact that women and children were being kidnapped or duped into it?

Jesus. So this person actually thought that women who one moment have an ordinary life, next moment are forced to flee leaving their fathers, husbands and brothers to possible violent deaths while their homes and possessions are destroyed, might be glad to be prostituted? Who can have such a naive view?
titchy · 27/03/2022 21:52

Apparently it's inevitable that some of the refugees will be sex workers so they'll need guidance on how to continue. Hmm

ScrollingLeaves · 27/03/2022 22:37

Did you see on BBC News that some women have set up a group of women drivers to help refugees move safely? I can’t quite remember their name, but something like ‘Women with Wheels’. What a good idea. If only there could be enough of them.

Also on the news, one women refugee with children spoke of a man trying to get her into a van filled with women. He said he’d take them to Switzerland and looked at her in a ‘sleazy way’ she said. When she asked to see his ID he was aggressive. She got away quickly.

DomesticatedZombie · 27/03/2022 22:41

I didn't, Scrolling, that's really good to hear.

It was this thread:

OhHolyJesus · 28/03/2022 12:19

Also this thread is relevant.

Sex traffickers exploiting Ukrainian refugees http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4498575-Sex-traffickers-exploiting-Ukrainian-refugees

Unsubstantiated 'reports' on Twitter from a woman who's husband is at the border heard something like 20,000 women and children have been trafficked - but that was a week or so ago so would be many more by now...but yeah SWIW Hmm

ScrollingLeaves · 28/03/2022 12:29

Where are they likely to be taken to carry out ‘their work’ with enthusiastic punters.

I’d like to kill those men.

FannyCann · 28/03/2022 14:08

Who can have such a naive view?

Who can have such a nerve?

listsandbudgets · 28/03/2022 14:29

I currently have 3 visa applications in for refugees to come and stay with us. I dont think any of them are classic sex traffic fodder (women early 70s, another late 30s and a teenage boy)

My sister in law however is sponsoring a girl aged 16 and her 25 year old cousin. They tell us they've been offered lifts, homes, money, jobs and even told they can earn a dollar or two if they quickly come over here. Thankfully a volunteer saw what was happening and helped and they're now staying with a very kind Polish lady who seems to be looking after them.

The facebook groups are almost like a market - it breaks my heart. People are literally putting up photos of themselves / their families, describing themselves... asking for help and you can see some men leaping onto the posts by young unaccompanied women.

Then sponsors are supposed to choose someone to come and live with them. In the end I couldn't do it so closed my eyes, scrolled and then put my finger on the screen and that was who I am sponsoring. We were going to have family members of a friend but they'd decided to stay in Ukraine .

There just has to be a better safer way to do the matching at the moment its like a predators chocolate box Sad

Sorry the above was meant for a different thread but I think it fits fairly well here to so if no one minds, I'll leave it

It does fit here.

In one of the FB groups I noticed this too, I've been directing women to a women only group (which floods the poor admin but safer) and one women in the mixed sex group said something about saying no to single men.

What happened next? Men got all upset saying Not All Men - yes WE KNOW! Talk to the rapists, traffickers and murderers.

Don't be so precious and take is personally - if you're such a nice bloke you should want women to be safe.

DomesticatedZombie · 28/03/2022 17:33

I think any man with good intent would understand instantly why women would want to be housed with women/not with single men.
