Irish Newstalk attack and defame JKR

I've just seen this being discussed on Twitter. twitter.com/NewstalkFM/status/1507656440223309830

Have added a screenshot as I can't believe their lawyers won't be rushing to delete this tweet very soon.

How have we got to this point where news sites give no thought to direct defamation of women like JKR, to nearly 300k followers? I mean, not even a basic check to see if they can find any, never mind 'a long history of' trans rights opposition by her?

I hope she does sue them.

That could come back and bite them hard. Ukraine donation perhaps?

OstrichFeathers · 26/03/2022 14:57

I really hope this bites them hard. I saw one tweet reply wondering if this is the penance for letting Sonia O'Sullivan air her perfectly reasonable views earlier in the week.

tabbycatstripy · 26/03/2022 15:03

Then when JKR does threaten legal action she gets more criticism for not lying down and taking it like a well-behaved women should.

CheekyMaw · 26/03/2022 15:04

Horrendous levels of misogyny on twitter today(more than usual!) and sadly, JKR is one of the main targets. I hope she sues them. And don't even talk to me about that Bragg! Useless fool

ForeverFaithless · 26/03/2022 15:13

I really hope her legal team sue their sorry arses, more money for charity for sure.

nepeta · 26/03/2022 15:38

The rationing!

My finger got tired trying to find a comment not yelling at them. One or two found among the many pointing out the need to lawyer up.

MoreCraicPlease · 26/03/2022 15:46

Generalising massively but Ireland is in a different place on this topic. A senior medic told me she’d lose her job if she dared question the transwomen are women ideology.

GrouchyKiwi · 26/03/2022 15:47

Such a joy to see the vast majority of comments are having none of this shit. And #IStandWithJKRowling is trending again.

Every time more and more people feel able to voice their support. Excellent.

MoreCraicPlease · 26/03/2022 15:58

I will say that Sonia O’Sullivan may have started a long overdue dialogue.

Abhannmor · 26/03/2022 16:08

Hope she sues them. Clearly libellous. The owner, Denis O Brien , is a billionaire so he'd probably settle out of court. Nice few quid for JKs Ukraine charity?

nauticant · 26/03/2022 16:24

JKR could sue them in the English High Court but might decline to do that because that would then trigger the "Imperialism" slur.

That is what my two Irish friends have told me, from different parts of the country.

I sooo want to visit Ireland one day. A beautiful island.

Abhannmor · 26/03/2022 17:35

Yes ,@nepeta we are at a different point in the cycle and Self ID was sneaked in behind Gay Marriage here. Young people are the most brainwashed. It's like teenagers saying 'fuck' for the first time. But the wheel is turning and sport is what will speed up that process.

Roseglen84 · 26/03/2022 17:54

Yes, unfortunately Self ID is already the law here Angry even though the vast majority of people don't really seem to understand or care about the implications of that. And we weren't asked if we were ok with it. Thanks for that!

It means that we have so far to go to even come back to a state of normality. Unfortunately we have a weak pathetic government who don't act, but just react, usually too late to be useful(except in the case of Self ID, which was strangely rushed through in lightening speed Hmm). They will wait and see how this pans out in other countries before daring to challenge it.

I honestly envy the debates you are having in the UK, even if it is difficult and painful. We aren't even there yet.

BessieFinknottle · 26/03/2022 18:24

Just read the article on Newstalk's Facebook page. Maybe they've changed it, as it reads -

"Both Putin and Rowling have a long history of making public pronouncements on the issue of transgender rights". I didn't see anything about 'opposing' transgender rights there...

Fecking eejits!

BessieFinknottle · 26/03/2022 18:26

No, still on Twitter

Abhannmor · 26/03/2022 19:14

I think someone ppl have screenshots anyway. @Roseglen84 is right. Our government will sheepishly wait until the grown ups decide how to resolve this mess. Could be a long wait too.
BessieFinknottle · 26/03/2022 19:48

Oops, I made a mistake. It is on Facebook too 🤦‍♀️

Fluffymule · 26/03/2022 21:23

They have now deleted the tweet, having left it up for the best part of a day.

Whether one of the grown ups at NT and/or their own lawyers suddenly realised what the social media team had done, or whether JKR's legal team moved in remains to be seen I guess.

Just checked the account, they've also got this:
