Someone thought it would be a good idea to go on Twitter and compare Dominic Raab to Putin: 'Totalitarianism doesn't goosestep to your door in jackboots. It shuts down protest, removes legal safeguards like the EU and Human Rights Act, attacks its political opponents, weakens dissenting media, and attacks minorities like travellers, immigrants, transpeople.'
Well, quite. Nobody reasonable would want protest shut down, legal safeguards removed, political opponents silenced or vulnerable minorities attacked, would they?
Ahem.
I'm not sure about the British Bill of Rights yet (still needs a lot of scrutiny), but I was reading about Raab's intention to put very strong safeguards in new legislation to protect freedom of speech. It doesn't seem like a very Putin move to me.
