Work want me to use cis-gender language

I work in healthcare and my employer is insisting I describe women as "cis-gender" to differentiate from transgender women. I don't want to but don't know how to make my Case in a respectful way. Thoughts?

"Cis" is not a neutral term. It presupposes your adherence to the ideological belief that some males can be a type of woman. If it simply means "gender conforming" few women are. If it means "identify with sex stereotypes" that's insulting and presumptuous. If it simply means "non trans" then a "trans woman" would be a biological female person who identifies as a man.

BootsAndRoots · 25/03/2022 11:37

Cis is too similar to "sis" (abbreviation for sissy) that is popular way many trans people describe themselves.

It is too confusing to use the term "cis woman", when you can have a "sis woman".

CaveMum · 25/03/2022 11:44

@HollowTalk

Surely the whole thing for trans women is that they want to be accepted as women.

If there is a separation into cis women and trans women then surely trans women will be unhappy about that?

It’s pushing more towards transwomen are allowed to call themselves “women” and the rest of us have to use “c*s women”. Once again promoting the idea that transwomen are somehow superior to biological women - how many times have you seen Twitter posts proclaiming TW to be better looking, etc.

If anyone in the NHS called me cis I will be lodging a complaint, I do not believe in gender ideology and I think gender theory is a form of oppression.

I am a woman because I am a adult human female, woman is my word and I have had it up to here with people trying to take it away, if the suffragette movement reformed tommorow to cause vandalism and arson like they were forced to do in the past to be heard, I would gladly join, I feel we are close to that point with all this shit, we have put up with it long enough and they just try to take more and more, it will never stop until we fight back.

RantyAunty · 25/03/2022 12:49

Do you have to refer to all men as cis men?

MoltenLasagne · 25/03/2022 13:40

Keep it simple, the term is likely to confuse and offend patients and may also be inaccurate.

If pressed you can say, well I personally am not cis and reject the term as offensive so I wouldn't want to assume any of my patients were cis either unless they proactively described themselves as such.

Surely it is extremely oppressive for the trust to presume gender like that.

lady69 · 25/03/2022 23:38

No is a whole sentence.

There is nothing they can do. .

should ask if your expected to refer to none Muslims as infidels too, or the equivalent in other religions for none belivers.

@VelvetChairGirl I've been wondering the same thing recently, too. How long can we carry on politely lobbying?
