Girls banned from attending school

Couldn’t see a thread on this but I am following in disbelief, and confused why there is not more outrage over this.

Girls in Afghanistan have been banned from attending school for 7 months. And today, the day they were due to be allowed back again, the taliban govt have backtracked and banned them.

Girls over the age of 12 denied an education.

How is this happening in 2022?

Anyone else feel so helpless at the relentless, infinite-seeming mountain of hateful misogyny around the world?
Those poor girls.

Whatwouldscullydo · 24/03/2022 07:36

Those poor girls Sad what an utterly cruel trick, letting them.get up get ready and go only to send them home again.

I am so horrified by this. While the eyes of the world are understandably on Ukraine I hope we haven’t forgotten Afghanistan.

Is there anything we can do? I gave to charity for Afghanistan at the same time I gave for Ukraine. But what else is there I should be doing?

This thread should be somewhere on the main boards. Not sure where, but everyone should be talking about this.

EdithStourton · 24/03/2022 07:43

Can't they just identify out of it and announce that they're boys?

Oh, wait...

The oppression of women is based on biological sex.

@DalarnaHorses

I read today that this means no female doctors and midwives will be trained, yet a woman can't have a man attend her at birth , so women will get to a stage where there is no medical help for them giving birth. This is barbaric, if true.
Yes. This has been something I have worried about ever since the Taliban took over. It will be carnage. Younger and younger girls being married off, no contraception, no care. Maternal and neonatal mortality will rocket. It is horrific.
endofthelinefinally · 24/03/2022 08:01

In fact, no medical care for females at all.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 24/03/2022 08:03

Just devastating for them

But no surprise

Wren44 · 24/03/2022 08:06

2022? Under the Taliban it might as well be the year 1022. Those poor people, those poor women and girls - they will have no chance at any kind of decent life. It’s tragic.

I'm.puzzled by the lack.of ability of these men to see the bigger picture. So desperate are they to control women and girls like right now they haven't even thought ahead. when the death rates of women and girls increase and the men outnumber the women. Just who are they going to marry/have kids with? You'd think they'd think of that if nothing else.

For people who think they have all the power they are awfully scared of girls learning to read.

Beowulfa · 24/03/2022 08:13

Think of these poor girls when you next see a wretched Labour MP squirming and flailing whilst struggling to define a woman.

Apart from men's ability to slaughter each other, its easier for them to up sticks and leave.

These poor girls. Things like this is why I rage when some idiot gaily chats about 'cis' and that it means you ..... identify and embrace the shit of your oppression willingly, apparently, because you haven't chosen to just pick a more powerful label.

No. No one in that country with any power cares about those girls' identity, or feelings, or needs, or voices, or even their basic safety. And gosh does that have a lot in common with the attitude the women of the UK so constantly encounter from the political TQ+ lobby, who don't care either about voices, needs, equality, rapes, being attacked....

You can split the ones with the power to force and ignore, and the ones with no power who are constantly the ones sucking up the harms, by one easy factor. And it's biology. And the powerless ones can't identify out of the grimness of their situation, but the powerful ones get to play as they like. And it does not matter about country or continent it is the same .

Pretending otherwise is to say you know exactly what sex is and which one you are on the side of oppressing.
