New fantastic beasts trailer JKR

Random query- I saw the new film advertised in a short (less than 30 secs maximum) spot on the tv and noted that it specifically said "JK rowling invites you....to rejoin the wizarding world". Then there was another screen flashed up at the end with cast details, and her name very prominently at the top. Thought it was interesting because as far as I remember none of the previous films included such a specific reference to her, and thought its odd to do so now given that she's apparently so controversial.

I wondered if she'd insisted on it given the fact she wasn't included in the 10 years on thing at Christmas (tbh I understood that one) and the ridiculous "separation of art from the creator" mantra TRAs are spouting to excuse the fact they can still watch the films despite her involvement, or if Warner bros had actually made the decision to support the creator of their most popular franchise (unlikely but hey....)

However when I looked for it on YouTube I could only find the long versions and all of those specifically say "Warner bros invites you" instead of "Jk Rowling...."

If anyone else has seen the short version please let me know so I don't think I'm hallucinating!

I saw the JKR version on Facebook last night and noticed straight away!

You're right, I'm sure they never normally give her that much credit...

BraveBananaBadge · 23/03/2022 15:53

I saw it on a billboard and gave a little cheer!

bellinisurge · 23/03/2022 16:54

I hope she insisted. Let's see the little darlings make a stink about it. More sunlight.

NotTerfNorCis · 23/03/2022 18:40

Great! I heard the opposite happened lately, she was left out of something.

Thewindwhispers · 23/03/2022 18:44

Nice to see. I don’t understand how anyone who has read her books can think she’s a bigot. Morons 🤦‍♀️

GinPalace2 · 23/03/2022 21:34

I have a feeling it’s contractual and WB would rather it wasn’t.

Great to know I wasn't imagining it. Good point ginpalace 2, but I wonder why none of the main trailers have it? Perhaps a uk/us/international difference? Or a recent change? In any case a big HA to WB!

Same.

I dont think they had a choice if she insisted

Lilyofthevalleys · 23/03/2022 21:58

I saw it today and specifically noticed the JK name check at the beginning…

BraveBananaBadge · 23/03/2022 23:50

I was so pleased to see her name when I drove past. The shame was my first thought was 'that could be defaced'.

But it's bloody brilliant it's out there.

thewhatsit · 24/03/2022 00:38

Her name is definitely prominent enough on the new film ads that my DS noticed them. He only knows JKR as the author of his favourite books of course, but every time we go past the ad at the bus stop (generally with a crowd of people) I get loudly “Look Mummy, JK Rowling! She’s the best in the whole world isn’t she Mummy?”

I’ve had JKR quotes sent home from school on school letters fairly recently.

I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't a US/UK difference. There isn't the same push back in the US and it's become a huge Red States/Blue States issue.

But even without the trans controversy they might have done the same. Harry Potter is huge but Rowling as a name isn't as big in the US. Her charitable works and standing up in public life has always been more UK focused. "Warner Bros." may have had more cachet than "JK Rowling" regardless.
