It’s like a bat signal has gone out today. Can only assume some ppl aren’t happy at how things are going

In other news, I made some creme brûlée because it is the pudding of the gods!

Oh hello!

I've been really enjoying having disorganised breakfast oats for people who are too crap to do overnight oats. Basically boil a kettle and pour just enough water over your oats to cover and put a plate over the bowl. Go and have a shower and by the time you get out, the oats will have absorbed the water and you can fling on a couple of spoons of yoghurt, some berries and nuts and there's your breakfast

Helleofabore · 22/03/2022 21:28

Creme brûlée is very fine. And crunchy. Just like how I feel sometimes.

I do miss the quokkas on the feminist island that we had going though. Can we still keep them to watch while we discuss recipes? They are cute and calming to watch.

Yes yes! To lazy porridge in the morning. Saves on having to actually cook the porridge. Boiled water, lid on. Creme brûlée? Tell us more!

PermanentTemporary · 22/03/2022 21:33

For those who prefer to make reservations more than food - I ordered the main course version of a fish plate at a restaurant. Twas excellent. I am sad at all the restaurant visits I have wasted not having the 'plate of small multiple bits' option.

Waitwhat23 · 22/03/2022 21:41

I went out for lunch last week and had smoked salmon fishcakes that came with a hollandaise sauce so tasty that I had to restrain myself from licking the plate. The rest of the meal was extremely nice but that hollandaise...

You could always have weetabix rather than porridge oats you know Grin

Cardamom creme brûlée! The undercurrent of spice is 😋

Ooh, my kind of thread. Does anyone have a good waffle recipe?

Also, I am out of vanilla extract…has anyone tried cinnamon?

Brilliant. I’ll remember that next time I can’t be arsed to do overnight oats.

My sourdough rolls with my friend’s onion chutney, incidentally, are delicious.

I love a bit of Bunbury baking. I must admit recent visitors have some pretty toxic extremist views so am always happy to get involved with some wholesome baking as an antidote.
I almost miss the days when FWR visitors would excuse themselves from some incoherent twaddle they were spouting with the need to away and ice a cake.

We do cinnamon waffles all the time. Delicious!
RomeoOscarXrayIndigoEcho · 22/03/2022 21:51

You are all making me crave croissants...

Doubletoilandtrouble · 22/03/2022 21:52

Helle, thank you, sounds promising Smile.

So normal waffle recipe but with cinnamon instead of vanilla? How much cinnamon approximately (2 eggs, 260g flour, 1.5 cups of milk, 1/4 cup butter and 2tbls sugar)?

AlisonDonut · 22/03/2022 21:55

i bought a new mixer today - I sold the old one before we moved and i've been making pizza dough by hand so I'm quite excited by new recipes I can try. I already made flatbreads for tea tonight.

I might even make aquafaba meringues at rhe weekend. Get in.

Galvantula · 22/03/2022 21:55

I've an entire recipe book for waffles, pancakes and various crépes, but I've only used waffle mix in me electric waffle thingy so far Blush

The pictures are really nice in the book though....

Waitwhat23 · 22/03/2022 21:57

Oooh, Empress I make a beautiful onion marmalade which goes with practically everything - it's from the River Cottage Preserves Book. Long cooking time but very much worth it.

Clymene · 22/03/2022 21:58

What's the sourdough roll recipe@EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn?

Honestly the oats are a bit shit compared to overnight oats but they're so quick and easy that I can overlook it #slattern

Helleofabore · 22/03/2022 22:35

Doubletoilandtrouble

Now that is up to your love or tolerance of cinnamon. More than a sprinkle but I would say we put about a teaspoon in. But we like cinnamon!!

WhereYouLeftIt · 22/03/2022 23:03

Wow, I've just googled quokkas - cute and calming indeed.

'Food of the gods' - surely that is ginger ice-cream?

ErrolTheDragon · 22/03/2022 23:15

I'd have thought everyone was fed up to the back teeth by waffle today.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/03/2022 23:50

Good point Errol.

IcakethereforeIam · 23/03/2022 00:31

I've seen it suggested that you pour caramalised sugar onto the custard for creme brulée instead of using grill/flamethrower/dragon/afterburner. Thoughts?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/03/2022 00:37

I don't think it gets as nice a result, too thick a layer and hard like peanut brittle.

Gumbomambo · 23/03/2022 01:22

Bunbury! I love you so much thank you thank you. I get so bloody cross. Thank you again. Did I say thank you?

Gumbomambo · 23/03/2022 01:23

Also peanut brittle.

AllMumsyWereTheBorrowedClothes · 23/03/2022 02:08

I've always wanted to contribute something to a Bunbury thread - my old headmistress was a Bunbury - but it's 2am and I haven't anything delicious to add...... I did see this pic on Instagram a while ago though. I was so disappointed in quokkas - though they really are absurdly cute. Hmm
