Labour won't defend women part 2786

Betty91 · 22/03/2022 15:15

I see Charlotte Nichols Labour MP of Warrington is bravely defending Lia Thomas right to swim on Twitter. She's also now saying women are more concerned with excluding trans women from sport than sexual harassment and safeguarding.

I think that's it for me and Labour. Life long Labour voter - I voted for whoever would get the Tories, in order to help an overall Labour victory... but never again.

@ResisterRex

I remember the flight story. Wasn't Charlotte Nichols also involved in leaflets about "traveller incursions" during electioneering? While holding the shadow equalities brief.
Yes, she’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
CheekyMaw · 22/03/2022 18:17

@Lordamighty This MP is another long line of Labour MPs(of both sexes) who come from privilege and walk into a seat due to the right connections. She went to a Russell Group uni, got a nice research job with a trade union ( nothing to do with daddy being high up in a trade union) and then got her pals to elect her onto some national committees ,then onto a nice safe seat. Not the brightest. Like to fetishise working class culture when it suits. We need to get rid of folk like this out the Labour Party ,if they are to have a chance of power again. Tbh I can't see them changing anytime soon.

Alcoh · 22/03/2022 18:20

Oh good gosh. So many MPs have no brains.

BunnyBerries · 22/03/2022 18:51

@maddy68

Tories are so pro woman? ..... Be careful how you vote. To not vote labour on one issue is like saying you are a vegan and won't go to Tesco because they sell beef
Not voting Labour, is actually more like if you're vegan and wouldn't go to Tesco if you saw they were labelling beef as chickpeas.
DdraigGoch · 22/03/2022 19:47

@IvyTwines

Extraordinary, isn't it? Girls, if you just trained harder, you too could become a 6'4" male. Does she feel this way about class inequality too?
I feel like rewriting this verse from Gilbert & Sullivan's HMS Pinafore:

Be careful to be guided by this golden rule
Stick close close to your desks and never go to sea,
And you all may be rulers of the Queen's Navee!

Betty91 · 22/03/2022 19:48

@Lordamighty

Charlotte Nichols the Labour MP for Warrington North went on a Parliamentary cross party trip to Gibraltar late last year, she got so drunk on the flight there that she had to be taken off the plane in a wheelchair. Once Keir Starmer was informed she was flown straight back without taking part in any meetings. She was parachuted in to the constituency as it is a safe Labour seat so unfortunately people will probably still vote for her despite her idiotic support for the male swimmer in the women’s race.
I had no idea this was her! Oh wow.

Exactly, she couldn’t pinpoint Warrington North on a map until she got handed it as a safe seat. Can’t see a bandwagon without wanting to jump on it.

@LizDoingTheCanCan

women are more concerned with excluding trans women from sport than sexual harassment and safeguarding.

She's not wrong is she, with regards to some women. You only need to look at the posts on this board as proof.

I consider LT getting their tackle out in the female changing rooms to be sexual harassment. As for safeguarding, this board frequently comes across examples of institutions skipping basic precautions in order not to appease a sacred caste.

If Labour can not define what I am how can they create policy that will benefit me?

Agree, that and to be able to define a woman (it is an adult human female for those hard of comprehension)

DdraigGoch · 22/03/2022 20:06

Sharron Davies (who was done out of an Olympic gold medal by an East German doping cheat) really has been going in all guns blazing over the last few days. We need more like her.

I met her by chance and tried to thank her, but was overcome with uncharacteristic nervousness. She is brilliant

This is a good analogy for the effect of transwomen in women's sport:

Labour won't defend women part 2786
whytcvv · 23/03/2022 06:49

So peeved they are taking this stance. As a Tory voter I've had it with them and was hoping to go red next time but this. THIS is not something I can vote for.

lovelyweathertoday · 23/03/2022 07:41

I won't vote for a party that can't say what a woman is.

Why would I vote for my own erasure?

Beowulfa · 23/03/2022 09:57

I'm genuinely alarmed at the dire state of the political opposition right now.

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 23/03/2022 10:05

Oh my goodness they really are astonishingly, and apparently intentionally, dense. How can a political party be so out of touch with reality? I've just had yet another WTF moment ShockConfused Hmm[

NameChChChChanges1 · 23/03/2022 10:05

She also pretended to be Jewish so she could go on TV and support Corbyn and gaslight Jews.

She's a travesty

I am too, and I say that as someone who has voted for the Conservatives more than the other parties. Now I can't vote Tory or Labour and am effectively politically homeless.
PierresPotato · 23/03/2022 10:09

So many crap MPs.

Lockedoorsopen · 23/03/2022 10:26

I am from Warrington and spent all yesterday raging about this. We are a very very working class area and no way does this reflect the views of the people that live here. We also have several large ethic communities that will pull girls from sports if their parents think men will be in the changing rooms with them. Charlotte has shown that she has no idea about the people she represents.

She is tweeting bout a man in the US - instead of dealing with actual Warrington issues then dares to say she doesnt have to engage. I don't think she expected the back lash she got last night.

She was also the one that got pissed on a flight and blamed it on medication.

Manchester council also did a dirty trick of a rushing through quick motions that basically throw womens rights under the bus the night before so yesterday was bad day for me.

These idiotic people stamping all over the protections we have spent years gathering with zero thought of the impact it will have on us as women and our girls.

Both warrington and Manchester struggle to get girls in to sports. especially from working class families who some times cannot afford the commitment it takes in competitive sports. I am so angry at these MPs.

If Rosie Duffield suddenly took top spot I would vote labour but for now I will vote Tory to keep these people from making things any worse for women and my kids. I am working class, my family are working class and I will be speaking to them about voting for Tory and doing my best to let them know what Labour are doing. The Tories are no shining example but honestly Labour are evil to me at the moment.

Charlotte telling her labour voting women to 'pipe down' was the last straw for me yesterday.

Lockedoorsopen · 23/03/2022 10:28

@knittingaddict I felt I was politically homeless. Especially after 'party gate'. But the thought of what could happen to my daughters is making me pick a side.

ResisterRex · 23/03/2022 10:29

Mark Jenkinson responds:

Bollocks.

Being born with them gives competitive advantage. Anyone celebrating male-born swimmers beating women in their own class as some kind of sporting feat is deluded.

I wish he'd get off the fence Grin
