I've just watched this (to the end). Very saddened to see a trans man who was so inspired by the females in the family that they wanted to be a man!

Also included are two transwomen.

Break the bias my arse. So patronising.

That's it I'm done. I need another day to celebrate great women and their achievements. Any suggestions?

Might I suggest November 19th Grin

WalrusSubmarine · 19/03/2022 00:53

Same. I went to an IWD lecture at a huge venue by 3 amazing women who are making real inroads around consent and have had some laws changed and are talking to decision makers in government, giving speech’s in schools, writing articles in major papers. Lots of examples of how boys and girls are taught and treated differently and the terrible toll for women as victims of abuse and not being listened to.

Really harrowing and uplifting in equal measure - until the last 3 minutes when one speaker went off like a smug evangelical preacher about her child that had come out as non binary and how everyone needed to educate themselves about gender identity and tw most vulnerable and how this new generation have got it all figured out...

I despair.

What’s November 19th?

Terfydactyl · 19/03/2022 07:46

@GoldenGorilla

What’s November 19th?
International mens day.

They never use it, never even know they have one. So it's going spare I reckon we should take it.

That is just awful. Why is opting out of womanhood celebrated so much.

On November 19th I think I'll wear trousers and not pluck my chin.

I'd say me too, but I do that every day. I guess on the day itself I could perhaps mention that I am wearing trousers and haven't plucked my chin? Would that even help?

What are we calling the new improved iwd on 19th November?

I think I will troll every social media event moaning about them not including Tansmen and NBs and referring to men not being inclusive.

At my (supposedly scientific) workplace a colleague posted a list of 10 feminist books for IWD on the Women's Network chat. It was quickly pointed out by the Women's Network admins that it included authors that may cause offense to our transgender colleagues. When the poster queried what the authors had said that could cause offense they were told to go and educate themselves, and the thread initially shut down and then deleted completely.

Nothing says happy IWD like publicly denouncing 10 female writers!

TheWeeDonkey · 19/03/2022 09:41

See, the worse thing they can say is go educate yourself because nothing peaks a person like a bit of independent research.

Agreed, seen this so many many times, on here and elsewhere. One is told to go educate oneself because they wont help you understand (for obvious reasons) So one trots off to educate, cant find whatever it was one was supposed to find, finds other alarming stuff, goes back to whoever said educate, they again say you need to educate, look harder, here's some random facts. Off one trots again with random facts, finds nothing at all to back up random facts or finds studies that had 17 people self reporting, thinks well shit 17 people self reporting does not actually make a decent study. Then finally gets "radicalised"
RockPaperScience · 19/03/2022 10:12

I used to enjoy IWD, celebrating women’s under recognised achievements in my field of work.

It’s a joke now. IWD is International Everyone Day, but mainly those who choose to co-opt the hard won opportunities of others.

I do enjoy the usual outcome of someone educating themselves. Welcome to Team GC!

VelvetChairGirl · 19/03/2022 14:49

I have no words, this is what we are dealing with on the comments section to amazons IWD post.

how did we get to this point how did the education system create people this blind?

Somanysocks · 19/03/2022 15:00

Oh my days!!

VelvetChairGirl · 19/03/2022 16:41

thats facebook btw they put a cut down version there.

PonyPatter44 · 19/03/2022 16:51

Transwomen get periods? What the actual fuck????

I might send a list of feminist books to my work womens network, just to see what they say.

My friend worked for a very large household name pension company, in one department, the person in charge announced they had chosen a MAN for IWD a few years back
