...worms exited.
Yesterday morning I shared a quiz with some students. There was a question that quoted thus: 'I'm not going down that rabbit hole', and, 'it depends on the context' - what was it that these MPs would not define? My students could not think what it could be. So I told them 'A Woman'. They were most surprised. Then they realised and did a spectacular volte face. I pointed out their cognitive dissonance. I told them why I have a problem with self id, and about rapes in prisons.
They went to another member of staff, and today I was summoned to a member of SLT and told that they had said I was transphobic, and had upset them.
I have had to type up 'my version' of the conversation. How I wish I'd just skipped that question! I'm now afraid that my form will all decide that I am a dreadful person.
Why does wrong think on this topic trump all other evidence of a person's good will?
I refuse to lie to my students. I stand by what i said, It was all true. But I'm feeling afraid, and still shaking.

Once again, you can’t just decide this teacher is amazing because they stated a view you agree with.

Anyone can "decide" they think anything they like.

Trans women are obviously not women otherwise what would they be transitioning from?

Ppl can ‘believe’ TWAW if they want the same as I can ‘believe’ I’m a 6ft 20 something blonde. Believing something doesn’t make it true no matter how much we want it to be
Christ alive that this needs to be said in the 21sr fucking century!!

The fact that transwomen are not women is only controversial because a lot of people are trying to pretend it's not true. It's not scientifically controversial.

The facts are that humans are sexually dimorphic, and our sex is immutable. Schools are letting their pupils down if any teaching around gender issues is not firmly underpinned by these facts, and it is horrifying if teachers are afraid to tell their pupils the truth because of fear of being accused of 'transphobia'.

We could argue all day about the line between a belief and a fact. But to my mind what it comes down to in this context is that it is a significant social and political controversy, and the families of the children may have views that differ really significantly.

So it's really not appropriate for the teacher to be weighing in on one side or the other. I don't want teachers telling my kids things that I think are wrongheaded and dangerous, and I can see that parents who take the opposite view also wouldn't want that. And it's their place to make that decision, and mine with my own kids. Not the school or the teachers.

ANd I do think a biology teacher could and should teach the standard stuff on sex. But that is not the same as what the OP is talking about.

“The facts are that humans are sexually dimorphic, and our sex is immutable”

Biology. Fact. What you need to learn in school.
